I do understand what you mean and largely agree.

However, I do have this underlying doubt about this comment and it is also aimed at many more players we have bought in recent times.

I have been watching Villa  oodles of years......and we never used to say this( play to his strengths) to the same extent it is said today.

  • Is it not too much to ask a player to adapt to his surroundings?
  • Are they so one dimensional?
  • are they so limited that they can only do certain things?
  • should it not be a pre-requisite to use your left and right foot....as a pro footballer?
  • is running off the ball and looking for space....putting you foot in( this is general not aimed at Rudy) getting close to an opponent, being aggressive....expected to be a strength or pre-requisite?

...................Do we make too many excuses for them today?

This is largely I suppose the sad reality of nowadays footballers. I too dislike it, but what can you do. The modern game is built upon all types of 'specialists'. When was the last time we saw a genuinely complete footballer? Zidane is the last one I remember.

All the best Rudy, always seemed to have a great attitude and personality. Helping out with the homeless and never complained when sat on the bench. Unfortunately, not a great lot of football ability.

I think we paid 6m for him originally? So to get that back and move him on, is a wonderful piece of business.

I'll always remember the winner against the scum, and the goal against forest wasn't too bad either. But above all I'll remember the countless times I looked on as he stood around like an oak tree, completely slowing down our attacks. That, and his leper like first touch.

Adios!

I like him, it's a shame he couldn't score for us like he did at Blackburn but wish him the best.

I remember having my doubts as soon as I saw the clip of him necking a Red Bull before coming on like a Sunday League player.

Rudy- I thought you would be a lot better than you have been but you must have done something right to be moving to the Prem.

thought the work you did with the homeless was fantastic. Showed you are a decent guy.

6 million is a good bit of business all round.

You are of course absolutely correct that Rudy's contribution has been minimal at best. Then again, we are seldom playing to his strengths. We didn't utilize him properly last season, nor have we thus far this season. I honestly think he gives us a much needed, different tactical alternative, considering the rest of our 'strike force'. And that is the sole reason I'd still keep him around, because with the right kind of ammunition, he'd surely score plenty. There's no denying he is as good as they come in the air, even though his general movement mostly is quite poor.

Ayew on the other hand, really is surplus to requirements. We have plenty of players who offer exactly the same, and more.

Ps. £6M move to Boro more or less confirmed. That's that then. Good luck finding a replacement for that figure.

We just dont play to his strengths. We have no one who could cross accurately enough.. and nor do we cross a lot in general. Watching the Boro game.. they cross every time they are forward. He will get a few goals for them

Sky team at Boro vs Leicester game saying we've accepted £6m for him from Boro.

They were also slating Negredo and can see why they are after another striker because "He doesn't move or anticipate anything"

:crylaugh:

Good on him for getting a move back to the Prem. I'd say he is the worst I've seen in a Villa shirt but he actually scored a few goals.  Whoever scouted him for us needs shooting, and whoever scouted him for Boro deserves a knighthood.

There's a lot still in our current squad that are worse than him!

Was it Spurs last year where he was really fired up? Took a throw off their players back I think?

Liked the guy, seemed to have had a big impact on Kodjia and has really helped him settle in with the team.

Not the best footballer but someone I'd wish well
