  1. Tom Fox

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. I couldn't find it. It's an article where Tom Fox talks about his time at Villa. More on link
  2. Ugo Ehiogu

Apparent heart attack. Report here. Sorry for short link. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39660196 Former England and Aston Villa defender Ugo Ehiogu is in hospital after collapsing at Tottenham's training centre on Thursday. The 44-year-old, who is Spurs' Under-23s coach, received medical treatment on site being transferred to hospital by ambulance, the Premier League club confirmed. "Everyone at the club sends their best wishes to Ugo and his family," Tottenham added in a statement. Ehiogu has been at Spurs since 2014. He made over 200 appearances for Aston Villa between 1991 and 2000 before spending seven years at Middlesbrough. Ehiogu, who was capped four times by England, also played for West Brom, Leeds, Rangers and Sheffield United before retiring in 2009.
  3. Nicola Keye

Hey, trivial with all that's going on I know , but I can't see anything on here about this - but it appears Nicky Keye has left to join West Ham?
  4. Gareth Barry

Everton’s midfield stalwart Gareth Barry will be celebrating a personal milestone when he starts Saturday’s game against Middlesbrough. The match will mark his 600th Premier League appearance, and third overall in the all-time list. Fellow midfielder Frank Lampard has 609, and winger Ryan Giggs is at 632. He probably already has a thread somewhere, but sorry guys I couldn't find it. Many many congratulations Gareth, pleasure watching you play in our shirt! Wish he was still with us to be honest. Top professional.
  5. Dalian Atkinson

Free Radio reporting that he has died. Terrible news if so. A true Villa legend. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum
  6. Massimo Battara

Someone posted this on twitter yesterday re: our new goalkeeping coach... thought it was a good insight: http://www.thenational.ae/sport/football/euro-2012-italian-influence-made-hart-grow-fonder#full
  7. Kevin Bond

Appointed as first team coach today. Can anyone shed more light on him? Beside the sacking incident, I always remember Harry's teams conceding lots of goals but TBH I wasn't paying that much attention... Anyone?
  8. Roberto Di Matteo

As per OS: http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~5620078,00.html (I remember Limpid asking for a seperate thread once confirmed. Don't hate the duplicate.)
  9. Steve Clarke

After triple checking the correct spelling, I think our new Assistant Manager deserves his own thread. Steve Clarke should be a good appointment and has the right experience. Only time and VT opinions will tell. Currently, Clarke's appointment is pure speculation, even though the BBC states otherwise, thus - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36435484
  10. This type of thread my already have been done so if it has i apologise but this is just a couple of thoughts i have been having over the last few weeks. So next season we are going to be playing championship football and it occurred to me that next season there will be a number of players that have come through the Villa youth system that somebody within the mess that is the management set-up of villa decided were not good enough to play for the club. just to clarify i am not talking about the likes of James Milner or Benteke. Craig Gardner - Not the greatest of players to ever pull the villa shirt on but none the less a steady solid player that i think would have added something to the shambles of our midfield over that last few years, plus could have filled in at full back if needed. If i am getting given a choice of Gardner or Bacuna who has filled a similar role over that time i know who i would rather have had. I am not 100% on his contract situation but i am assuming he will still be at WBA next season. Steven Davis - I am pretty sure he was voted as player of the season one of the season he played for us and i am almost certain would have had a far more positive impact on our joke of a squad than the likes of westwood and bacuna. Next season probably playing regularly for a top 8 team in Southampton and will be going to the Euro's with Northern Ireland. Gary Cahill - Since being deemed not good enough for a place in the Villa team by Martin O'Neill he has gone on to a big money move to Chelsea and a regular place in the England Squad. So next year when we are probably playing Walsall in a local derby Cahill can look forward to derby games against Arsenal, West Ham etc. Marc Albrighton - the most recent of the academy players i can think of deemed not good enough for Villa and then going off to play regulary in the premier league. In my view this one sums up Villa in a nutshell. the player not good enough for the might Villa plays a sigifigant part in winning the Premier League with Leicester City while the team he wasn't good enough to get in are being relegated with the most pathetic points total in the history of the premier league with the most pathetic bunch of people in any squad in the history of the premier league. (just a note here as well that refer to the players as people not as footballers because i think the is something intrinsically wrong with the playing staff as human beings not just as footballers. I think a lot of our players have issue's with there character that runs deeper than football). so there is just a couple of thoughts, i am sure people will highlight that Cahill wanted to leave and i would say yes perhaps he did but thats because he knew he was good enoigh to be playing week in and week out and its the reason we are left with garbage like Clarke as our academy graduate centre back.
  11. General Charles Krulak

In sure he has a thread hidden away somewhere. Apologies mods if he has one, but he's back! http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-owner-randy-lerner-11055402
  12. Eric Black

Incoming as Gardes assistant. Comes with a wealth of experience, seemingly hand picked by Garde. Let's see what he brings to the table. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/aston-villa/12117894/Remi-Garde-appoints-Eric-Black-as-his-new-assistant-manager-at-Aston-Villa.html
  13. Steven Hollis

Appointed a new chairman. But yet again appoints someone who has NO experience within Football. http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~5273031,00.html
  14. The Rémi Garde thread

Aston Villa Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Rémi Garde as our new manager. The 49-year-old Frenchman is widely regarded as one of Europe's most exciting coaches and has agreed a contract that will run until the end of season 2018/19. Rémi enjoyed a successful three-year period as manager of Ligue 1 side Lyon where he led the club to the Couple de France and Trophee des Champions as well as the quarter-finals of the Europa League, successfully implementing his own brand of highly entertaining football in the process. He is also renowned for developing young talent and the Club is thrilled to have secured his services. Tom Fox, Aston Villa Chief Executive, said: "For the past year we have been working purposefully to transform the Club in order to build a successful organisation that can compete and succeed in the Premier League. "Finding a manager who shares and believes in our vision and has the ability to bring it to life through performances on the pitch is essential. We are confident that Rémi is the manager who can deliver the best from the current squad and help set the club up for future success". Rémi Garde said: "It is an unbelievable honour to be the manager of such an illustrious football club. "I've had extremely positive meetings with both the owner, Randy Lerner, and Chief Executive Tom Fox. They have ambitious plans for the Club and I'm excited that they have turned to me to help them realise them. "Obviously we have a difficult task in front of us but I'm looking forward to the challenge with the support of everyone who loves Aston Villa." Chairman Randy Lerner added: "Rémi came with ideas, honesty, humour and a steely sense of what it will take for Aston Villa to be what it is meant to be - hard working, tireless, creative and unwilling to concede. "Nobody at Villa can deny that we are way behind. We recruited aggressively this past summer and it is our responsibility to now harvest this talent rather than buckle under pressure and criticism - we are better than that. On behalf of the Board we wish Rémi every success." http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~5113718,00.html

  17. Benteke v Yorke

Who was the better striker? Yorke had better teammates and managers, Benteke scored less....if you had to build a team around one of them, who would you pick?
  18. Adama Traore

Sky Sports Transfer Centre have basically paraphrased this article: http://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20150803/201097739785/adama-de-gira-por-inglaterra.html TRAORE IN TALKS WITH THREE PL CLUBS Barcelona starlet Adama Traore will visit the facilities of three Premier League clubs and negotiate with each of them this week, according to Mundo Deportivo. The teenager’s future has been subject to heavy speculation in recent weeks and it was reported on Monday that he has already travelled to Merseyside to undergo a medical with Liverpool. However, according to Mundo Deportivo, the winger, who has been granted permission to miss Barca B training sessions this week, will use his time in England to visit the facilities of Liverpool, Stoke Cityand Aston Villa and hold talks with all three Premier League sides before deciding his next destination. Traore, who is under contract until 2018, has a €15m buyout clause. Barca would prefer to sell him rather than loan him out, although they would look to include a buyback clause into any transfer.
  19. Rudy Gestede

Loks like this one is happening then, just hope this doesnt mean we get rid of Kozak.
  20. Jordan Veretout

Interesting. According to http://m.leparisien.fr/sports/football/mercato-le-nantais-jordan-veretout-en-route-vers-aston-villa-27-07-2015-4973813.php He is on his way to AVFC ?!? Jordan Ayew

  22. Jerell Sellars

Can't find a topic about this lad but he seems to be scoring all of our goals this preseason. Any of you U21 followers got any info on him? Could he play a part this season?
  23. Riccardo Calder

Surprised a thread hasn't been started for him tbh. Yesterday in the second half he looked solid, got forward a lot and had some neat touches in midfield. Stood out for me above anyone else.
  24. Niall Mason

Starting tonight against Fulham. Never heard of him before myself but found a nice piece on him by the Birmingham Mail. http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-portugal-lowdown-18-year-old-9636558
