  1. Lenglet is no threat in the air......bean pole, Nah. You won't convince me, that height is not an important ingredient in certain positions......why are Goalies all 6'1 +.....most are 6'4 Very few centre backs in the prem are sub 6 ft
  2. Thats where character and bounce back ability comes in. They always seem mentally up for these games with us, just like Blues and Albion....We need to be prepared.
  3. No....but its not convincing. The result, was fine....but the performance, had more questions, than answers.
  4. I think they will be well up for it after losing to Coventry. I think our slow laboured style, invites pressure.....and I am not sure at present, if our first touch/ ball control, lends itself to this kind of approach.
  5. In certain positions....... we/he hasn't got the players, to play in those "right positions".......We have had injuries, to crucial players, who we are short of. We need greater depth of balance. I think the injuries, have helped expose, the lack of diversity in the squad profile.
  6. Wolves will expose, our weaknesses, they always do.
  7. but we are relying on moments for points.....while we dominated possession in the second half, we played in front of them, only when Diaby got behind them, we scored. It's very lazy possession, lacks assertion, aggression and urgency.
  8. They all do....we wait for mistakes and errors, instead of forcing them. It's not just him...The whole team lack movement off the ball, not enough athleticism in the side. The man on the ball gets caught in possession, looking for someone to pass to.....There is not enough appetite to move to receive......only when we come across teams, who fail to press us, do we deviate from that. Our team don't like traffic....they like open spaces.
  9. That's not a selection problem.....it's a squad balance problem.....UE is running out of credible options. The injuries have highlighted and issue, that was already there.....We have too many attackers v defenders.....so we are playing attackers in defensive roles. It's probably a bit more subtle than that, but basically that's what it is......Mings and Kamara, have not got direct replacements. The players who are playing in those roles have attacking bias, not defensive bias.
  10. I think if we play slow and laboured, we will get picked off. We showed too much respect to Spurs and invited them in.
  11. The Blind Beggar in Whitechapel...... just kidding.
  12. I think its fair, to be excited about mixing with the big boys, but we can't take our foot off the gas.....There is no treading water, in this environment, you are either progressing or regressing, there is no middle ground. I look at our efforts under UE and I am blown away, with the progress.....but at the same time, I see opportunities to be better. I think that rests entirely on recruitment. When Unai said last season only 10% of the work is done, I believe that from my observations....we still have a way to go, to properly challenge to top boys. Chelsea, Man U and possibly Newcastle will come back with a vengeance next season, and we need to be ready. We need to forensically analyse why, we have looked so vulnerable, in certain games.....when in others we have looked so formidable......The chasm in those games is the key concern, the distance from best to worst, is the centre of concern. Injuries are bound to affect any team, but to cling to that mitigation, for every set back is misleading in my view....I think the team needs to find more durability, and grit, when confronted by spirited opponents, and it needs to be more robust and secure at set pieces and be ready to deny opponents any initiative....we have to embrace the grinding out results in away games and cup games, when necessary. When we can honestly go to places like St James, and Anfield and be confident of giving them a game....we will know, we are getting there. I look at our team and think, it's not as hard to fix as we sometimes care to think......The top boys have added certain players to their camps and transformed themselves from top 6 to title challengers....The players coming in have made a real impact on their ambitions. It's not impossible for us, or as big an ask as some think.....but we do have to get recruitment right to do so.
  13. honesty is always the best policy. I think we are at a very pivotal stage in our development......the next few transfer windows, will define, where we go....I still think, we have some very good players, but still feel the balance of the squad is not right, to challenge for the top prizes.
  14. Withy, would have put his name to that too.
  15. but why do we keep getting linked with wingers, when we have 2 good ones on form.
  16. Another winger?..... We have 2 of the best, when the team is functioning correctly. Oh !....... and have some respect, for the Holte End Poets
  17. comprehensive second half.....got the job done. quality goals.

    Tim Iroegbunam

My mate with a stutter, hopes he gets transfered. but better than Elijah Adebayo...checkout his full name.
  19. I think you are spot on Shaun. With a slight adjustment....5-3-2....can be anything...and I have said before during a game the dynamics of the game, does encourage changes, naturally. There were one on one instances in this game, where we was second in the duel....that I struggle to see how a system, could affect that. If you don't win you duels, or do individual competencies/ disciplines....a system won't bail you out.
  20. All the top clubs have 6's with technical ability.....I wasn't suggesting otherwise....I am well aware that the game has changed, but destroying is still alive, but it doesn't have to end there.....Rice and Rodrigo do it, as do other clubs versions. Someone, at some stage, has to go after the opposition.....and not just wait for them. I don't much care about systems,( while not dismissing them) but the fundaments of the game, cannot be by passed, without consequences. As we progress our ambitions, all players need to be more rounded.....being single dimensional, won't cut it, in any capacity......as an example, attacking full backs, who can't defend, won't cut it at the top level....you have to do both, like Walker, Shaw, Undogie, etc I don't think anyone is suggesting a Nakamba, despite his ability in one context.....but it would be irrational to dismiss his prime forte, as old fashioned....He is simply not rounded enough, for where we want to go. Stopping opponents is not old Fashioned......going after them in a manner to win the ball and turn it over, is not old fashioned......denying the opposition from mounting attacks, in transition, is not old fashioned......We need to be clear about this. We cannot rock up at a game Home or away, and just start playing champagne football.....Wouldn't it be great if we could. There is another team, making the same preparations for games as us.....so a football team has to be balanced, for moments when we have the ball and when we don't......If we have too many players, who are just competent on the ball, but not off it, the opposition will sus that out...particularly the better teams. We can get away with it to a degree, with the lesser teams, but the better teams have to be stopped or curtailed and that's where you need competent players with the nose/ nous to do it. CDM's need to be good readers of the game, amongst many other things. Don't be fooled, to think stopping opponents gallop, is old fashioned.....Watch the defensive work of the top clubs, both in midfield and at the back....it's alive and kicking in modern football. I will put my head above the parapet and say " If we ignore the merits of good defending, we will win nothing of any value"....We may have enough for the conference, but the big prizes, will elude us. You can quote me on this......if we defy it. PS John Mcginn, is not particularly a good defender, but he does go after opponents, with a will to stop them, or burgle the ball....I get frustrated when I see him having to be redeployed back in the double pivot, when I thought we had realised, some time ago, that is not his natural position...We keep asking him to fill in there, because we don't get the balance of the squad right, in terms of cover.
  21. I typed that first and changed it to Villarreal.....thanks.
  22. Maybe because we was brought up on intensity, pace, and urgency being prime ingredients.....However, when you see Pepe at 41 putting in those performances, maybe he has a point. We need a few more like McGinn, not less.
  23. but that's what we are doing.....playing 8's in no 6 roles....because there is a clear lack of 6's at the club.
  24. We need some athleticism in Midfield.....and effective cover for Ollie. We need a dominant centre back.....( Unsure of Mings's situation)....Lenglet and Carlos are not the answers. We are playing too many attack minded players in defensive positions...we need to address this. I hope Monchi is the villarreal version, not the Roma Version.
