So does anyone else feel that Martinez should’ve punched that first corner away? Or am I in the minority?

I'm not convinced. The ball was in that borderline area where if you go and miss it they score, if you leave it you may need to pull off a worldie. Difficult to criticise really.

We have lost 4 of the last five to bang average sides and if you look at Arsenal's league position and how many games they have lost they are a bang average side too. People just see the word Arsenal and think 'brilliance' well news alert........Arsenal haven't been brilliant for years! With a decent manager this Villa team would be challenging for Europe.

Two moments of criminally disorganised and casual defending and a lot of ineffective attacking. We dominated a lot of the play but it seemed like we were just expecting the goals to come without having much of an idea of how you make it happen. We do seem to be missing Barkley.

Urgh. Hard to bare. VAR sucks, from what I saw it was almost undetectable and the ball in the image looks 2inches from his boot so it’s not the moment he kicks the ball, it’s the moment after.

Played very well away, did more than enough to win.

Was Hourihane injured? Was unlucky I thought, slotted in nicely. Think with Barkley we walk this, he takes a great penalty too. Watkins played well and was unlucky.

The true Trezeguet may be emerging, and AEG looks terrible. A few more forward options and we are a really decent unit.

This season may be a ‘what if’ season. We play well, have a blip or concede to worldie, and don’t take our chances.Oh, and Jack gets better and better, amazing.

I still feel positive.

Martinez 6 - Not much to do. Should probably have claimed the cross for their first goal

Cash 5 - needs to get up the pitch. Stupid tackle that got him a yellow card.

Konsa 7 - Solid. Our best CB. Should have scored a header from a nice cross.

Mings 5 - Too casual. As always tries to dribble himself out of defence unnecessarily. His role in our zonal marking system is to clear the ball but he fails far too often. Some decent passing.

Targett 5 - Did nothing whatsoever. Beaten in the air by Ogbonna for their first, but that was expected.

Luiz 7 - Looked solid. Did nothing wrong, but not much right either. Good flick to Trez to win the penalty.

McGinn 5.5 - Looked tired and unfit. Looked more lively in the second half but did nothing of note. Should have scored a chance with his right foot.

Hourihane 5 - Lightweight and useless in open play. Put in some good crosses and had a decent shot on target from a free kick. Still, he offers nothing and his set pieces overrated.

Grealish 8 - Nice goal. Everything positive went through him. Tried his best but was visibly frustrated by the shite around him.

Trezeguet 4 - Anonymous first half. Should have scored a tap in. Won a soft penalty which ended up being his last action of the game.

Watkins 5 - Did nothing in the first half. Some nice touches in the second half but missed a penalty which ultimately cost us the game. Almost redeemed himself with a nice finish but VAR f*cked us over yet again.

Traore 5 - put in a nice cross and had a shot on target that was easily saved by Fabianski. Showed for the ball but was often ignored by Cash.

El Ghazi 4 - had two, maybe three touches?

Smith 4 - Not learned from previous mistakes. Zonal marking is not viable with this team. As always, no plan b, not proactive enough with his substitutions.

F*ck VAR - it's killed the game. No point watching anymore.

Thanks for that picked out all the negatives nicely and managed to ignore anything of a positive nature a very balanced resume of the game. Neutrals reading it would probably expect to see a 5-0 score line.

No idea how we lost that game, similar to last week except we were better today and still came away with the same result.

Not switching on at the start of the halves killed us, that and the procession of quality opportunities we wasted.

You have to be encouraged with the performances but we have crashed down the form table so we really need a win on Friday.

Thought the ref had a great game by the way, let it flow where he could.

4 defeats in 5 games. What's worse is watching Villa makes me angry as hell and is a horrible experience rather than enjoyable.

We are mid table with a game in hand. We are creating chances every game but are making some silly mistakes. We have Grealish as our captain and has signed  a new conrtact and the head coach who is one of us. We have some of the best owners in the  league.

A couple of years ago we were days from going into administration and starting at -10 points in the championship so lets have  perspective. Its all gravy.

If VAR can overule the ref and give a decision then further evidence provided in that Watkins was being fouled and pushed into an offside decision and change their mind an award a draw after the game. After all VAR was brought in to provide accuracy and players can have red cards rescinded after a game following video evidence!
