I'm worried about Buendia - I can sort of see there's a serious player in there. There were glimmers against Wolves and it was a decent finish against Brentford.

He doesn't have the benefit in my eyes of having watched him previously that much. Because I more or less only watch Villa I can only compare him to two players so far: Jota and Carles Gil, due to their high skill set but low physical stature. Jota had some ability but no pace or physical presence, and who since Villa has disappeared from the sport. Buendia has a £40m price tag and he is in Jota's ball park currently for me. Gil on the other hand, came from nowhere, more or less every touch was gold for Villa, and has since disappeared (at least from Europe). Buendia barely looks half the player of Gil.

I hope things work out for Emi, and they probably will in some way. I made the Jota comparison with my dad and said he didn't look fit to lace Voldemort's boots after the first few games and checked myself immediately, but today vs Arsenal... woah, not too far off.

I haven't given up on him yet.

Just as we have Ollie and Ings cancelling each other out, we need to put him in a system which allows him to play.

We have some good individual players, but we are wasting them currently.

That’s garbage. He continually takes the ball into opposition players when his own team mates are available. And loses it. Talk about systems till the cows come home but you gotta start with accountability.

Saying that playing centrally isn't his strong point is fine but, for £40, I expect a player to be able to:

1) Control a ball from a throw-in

2) Be able to make a simple pass

He looks like a child amongst men. He was terrible last night.

Agree with this and agree with whoever compared him to Carles Gil.

I think this could well go down as our worst signing in history but I’m willing to give him time and pray that that is wrong.

Being good for Norwich in the championship doesn’t mean a lot. He’s not got the time and space he had there and seems to be struggling with the step up.

He was good when they were in the PL too, which is why his form is so confusing. One of his standout qualities was how deceptively strong he was on the ball...very hard to push off with his low center of gravity. He seems to be made of paper now, gets brushed off with ease. I think that preseason injury messed up his rhythm, I suspect something similar for Watkins too who also looks off the pace and we know he was mint in the PL last season.

He’s a quality player , but need to play in the right position & formation. He’s not the central midfielder himself , better in a unit with light minded skillful player .. Behrama , or even David Silva needed a season to get up to speed too if I remember correctly

If he doesn't do the business at some point I'm never trusting Norwich fans again.

Buendia rarely played as a 10 for Norwich.

I think we need to play 4-3-3 and play Buendia RWF to get the best out of him.

It's interesting to go and read some thoughts in this thread from a week ago, at which point it was widely considered a really promising performance, and he was only bested to MotM by McGinn., Now he could be on track to be  our worst signing in history.

Just a handful of the appraisals from a week ago, that were all very fair and reasonable based on the performance,. He was shocking last night, but so were plenty of others. Writing him off this early is ridiculous.

Our best player.

Should never be taken off and need to start every game.

I’ve been wanting something from him and got it today. If he keeps that up he will be vital to any progress we make

Better today, some good moments and his tracking back/work rate was excellent. Thought at the time subbing him off was fine but obviously not, hindsight and all that.

His best game for us today. Second only to McGinn.

Should have stayed on

He’s weak, slow, poor passer, moans a lot, his most annoying habit though is the number of times he turns into trouble. Personally think we’ve looked better and more balanced in midfield when he isn’t in the team.

It was a massive over reaction last week though and said it at the time. He was better last week but it wouldn’t have been hard. He’s been poor in general since we have signed him. Unless he suddenly gets faster and stronger I don’t see much improving for him.

I think he’s learning the prem ain’t like the championship. Look how quick arsenal were closing down yesterday, Buendia didn’t have chance to think. It’ll come for him but we’ve got to stay patient. Use him as a sub and ease him in.

He was being way overrated in the summer, people were reacting as if we'd signed a galectico, I got called a troll for pointing out that the last time he was in the Premier League he only scored once, if he was as good as being made out we would have had more competition for his signature, and that Smith Rowe would have been a bigger signing... And also that despite it being our record transfer fee, £30m doesn't get you guaranteed quality these days, that's the kind of money that Everton paid for Iwobi and Leicester paid for Pérez, for the money we paid him being an improvement on Trezeguet, El Ghazi, and Traore, would make him a good signing for the money we paid...

He was being way overrated then, and is equally being too easily written off now, he hasn't even played five games worth of football in the premier league for us yet, the most important thing is to play him in his correct position, playing him in a midfield three means not only do we not get the best out of him it also weakens our midfield because we sacrifice a specialist midfielder to fit him in.

I think he will come good, maybe not as good as some were predicting in the summer - ark, if he was that good he would have cost £60m plus never mind £30m - but good enough to justify the money we paid for him, maybe more than justify it. Needs a run of games in a settled line-up so he can start developing an understanding with our other attacking players.
