Aaron Ramsey

Disappointed with this, his dad’s sister is a former colleague of mine (who had to retire on medical grounds) and it was AJ who she used to talk about most. He was the one she mentioned was most gifted and would go the furthest.

Wish him all the best except against Villa!

Just read on the athletic that they are trying to add a year 1 buy back into archers contract, wonder if this is similar to ramseys? Thought these buy backs had a minimum of 2 or 3 years?

If we can buy him back after a year it's essentially a ffp friendly loan.

A little sad to be honest as high hopes but clearly wants first team football which can’t complain at. Clearly trust in his development with seeking the buy back as well so generally good deal. Just hoped he would follow through his brothers shoes and not have to move “permanently” but I think that’s the more of the modern game now anyway. At least we are on the other side of those types of deals now.

Imagine finding out after their FA Youth Cup win in 2021 that neither Chukwuemeka or A.Ramsey would be at the club in two years time.

Pretty crazy that (as of right now) no one from that successful youth team is remotely close to breaking into our first-team.

On the plus side, imagine being told they would be sold for 30 million before either of them between them has played more than a handful of games for the first team.

Selling of our promising youth just to cheese FFP.

Sad tbh.

Guy is going to get a full season or two that we can't offer him of Premier League football under his belt in all likelihood for our development.

It's not just about FFP, though that is a factor and the rules that we unfortunately have to play by.

A year buyback is definitely stretching the rules but currently allowed.

Basically if you sell an academy player for £10m, it's £10m profit, which is an immediate £40m available transfer fee for buying a player on a 4 year contract.

Then if we buy him back for say £20m on a 4 year contract, it only costs us £5m a year.

So we benefit when we sell him and benefit when we buy him back. This Monchi is a genius!

We've been loaning out our young talent over recent years, paying a proportion of their salary in many cases and have struggled to get anything back for them, when their contracts had run down. These sort of deals should give us the best of both worlds. Players get games and first team experience. We get them back, if they have shown they are good enough for our first team and if they haven't, we have the cash already in the bank. In this case, I suspect Aaron will be saying:

This is the new loan system. Sell to buy back cheap. In AJ’s and a few other players case it’s a win/win. They’re  getting the Prem game time they desire and we get some decent cash, no obligations, wages or costs if they don’t make it or get a serious injury. Yet the buyback gives us the option to have them back if they don’t make it.

it’s a creative way to use our academy that keeps the players happy and the accountants too. Particularly for players who are beyond the loan stage of their careers, yet not quite good enough for us. Push them out and let them grow on their own terms. Prove themselves to be worthy to come back.

'In all likelihood' it won't be for our development; my understanding is a very small proportion of these buyback clauses get activated, and even if we did activate it, we could still be doing so with the intention of 'flipping' him on to another club with a bigger budget (if Burnley get relegated, frex.). Think the chances he reaches the exact stage of development that he would need to be at, and we are at the exact stage of development we would need to be at, *and* that we would need a player in his position *and* decide he was the best option is pretty remote when combined together.

If we don't need him or he doesn't become good enough then we got a good deal.
