Jordan Amavi

He has the most completed dribbles in the league thus far. When have we ever had a left back like that. Or player for that matter. We need to learn how to manage his attacking talent and defensive duties.

Apart from the assist I thought his crosses were a bit all over the shop, but there should be plenty of patience because his learning curve will pay off for us massively.

He's a joy to watch. Could actually be our best player at the moment.

Despite the facts that he gave away the free kick that led to the first goal, because he was behind the play and secondly was responsible for the breakdown in play that led to the second.

Rule 1: defenders need to be good at defending. Going forwarding he was excellent, he made some great tackles BUT he was partly responsible for both their goals.

Although clearly he is one of our better players atm, VT does make me laugh sometimes.

Goal last week, Guzan rolls ball to Amavi, Amavi loses it - Guzan thread jumps 10 pages with people calling for him to be replaced and at fault for the goal, Amavi thread jumps 2 pages with people gushing over him being our best player despite 1 little error. Goal this week, Amavi caught out of position needlessly fouling a player 25 yards from goal and the resulting free kick flies into the top corner - Guzan thread jumps a few pages with people bemoaning his awful positioning, and he was at fault for the goal, Amavi thread continues to be filled with people gushing over him being our best player and only 1 person mentions his part in the goal

Us football fans are a funny lot sometimes

Special thanks to both of you for bringing this thread back to normal VT standard.

Put it that way. You could accept mistakes from good players while its different with bad players.

There are players who offers a lot while doing the odd mistake. Players who offers less need to make it up for them. Its not as blaming who hasnt done anything wrong. Last week it was a mistake between Guzan and Amavi. Two of them were good this season. Guzan getting blamed for his distrubution not for his goal keeping. His mistake against City last season wasnt something which needs to be learned. It was a rushed mistake and overconfidence with bad decision. Its not something to do with bad goalkeeping. Same goes with Amavis mistake.

He's good but he's not great yet.

At his age, new quicker league, new language, new team etc are all going to make things difficult but if he's good enough to learn from his mistakes then we will have an excellent player.

More completed dribbles than any other player in the league and top 5 for interceptions.

Seems similar to his stats last season, so obviously they are his strong points.

Really enjoying watching this lad develop, I have no problem with us being a 'finishing school' for these sort of players - it's a joy to watch them.

He is going to be one of the signing of the season, lets not kid ourselves tho he is here to put himself in the shop window for a big club. But hopefully we can keep hold of him for a couple of seasons before the big clubs come in for him.

Both Amavi and Gueye featured in Sky Sports top 5 new signings:

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/9976199/top-five-new-boys

The bloke knows what he's talking about. This is pretty much a perfect little writeup on JA:

The second of Aston Villa's new recruits from France in our top five, young full-back Jordan Amavi has already excited the club's fans this season. Left-back has been a problem position for Villa for many a year and the 21-year old looks set to solve the issue, despite a hairy moment that handed Crystal Palace victory over Tim Sherwood's men a fortnight ago.

Amavi was trying to dribble out from the back and was caught in possession, though the fans are not too concerned given the threat he now provides from deep. The former Nice defender has completed more dribbles than any other player in the Premier League (15) and registered his first assist of the season in the draw with Sunderland at the weekend.

With a further 3.5 tackles and 3.3 interceptions per game his busy displays have been a real highlight early on in the season for Villa, earning him a team-high rating of 7.62 in the process - enough to rank 10th in the league.b
