Aleksander Tonev

Poor old Tonev. His lawyer seems to have advised him to argue he didn't know the meaning of the word "c***" but he got done on the grounds that he knew the meaning of the word "black".

Hope his lawyer didn't charge too much.

Mate told me but just did a quick google and its in the papers too, although not as far gone as what I heard:

ALEKSANDAR TONEV'S agent last night confirmed Werder Bremen were showing serious interest in ending the Bulgarian international's troubled spell at Celtic.

The on-loan Aston Villa winger's appeal against his seven-game SFA ban for a racial slur on Aberdeen defender Shay Logan was thrown out last week.

Celtic have stated they won't take the matter any further and Tonev is back home with his family while he sits out the ban.

However, Bundesliga strugglers Werder Bremen have shown interest in signing Tonev from Villa, which would cut short his loan spell at Parkhead.

And his agent confirmed Tonev could leave Scottish football next month. Nikolay Zheynov said: "Werder have again shown interest in him, but at this stage we don't yet know whether the transfer will go through.

"Before he signed for Villa, I went to Germany with Aleksandar and told him to sign for Werder.

"He chose Aston Villa and I told him that was a mistake. He didn't listen to me and I was proved right.

"Now Werder want him again and I hope he makes the right decision this time.

"It depends on how keen Villa are to sell him and whether he wants to go to Germany."

And the representative insisted Tonev is no racist.

He said: "I'm known him for years and I cannot believe that he was guilty of racism.

"Unfortunately, you have to respect the punishment.

Bremen tried to sign the international two years ago when he was at Lech Poznan, but he chose to go to England with Villa instead.

Now they are involved in a Bundesliga relegation battle and are desperate for winter reinforcements.

Meanwhile, Celtic's winter break schedule in Gran Canaria has been confirmed by Spanish organisers.

The Hoops postponed a game against St Johnstone on January 5 so they can head for Spain and play in the 30th edition of the Maspalomas Cup.

Celtic will face PSV Eindhoven in the opening game of the tournament on Saturday, January 10, in a match which organisers say will be shown live in the UK.

Ronny Deila's men will then face Sparta Prague on the 13th, with the Czechs a late replacement for Ukrainians Shakhtar Donetsk.

The matches will take place at the Municipal Stadium in San Fernando.

I would never dismiss racism at all, but I do find it strange that panels have to judge these things on one man's word against another.

Not suggesting the other guy would make it up but surely there is room to mishear things. This isn't like Suarez where he said it but argued about meaning, or Terry caught on camera. This is Tonev completely denying saying it, the other guy saying he did, and Tonev getting a ban.

I guess there's no other way to handle it and one person's word against another is the case in many situations from kids fighting to the criminal courts but you'd be gutted if you hadn't said it and now had the label forever. So in a way I hope he did say it and is just a scumbag rather than didn't and has been bombed out of British football because someone misheard him.

(My gut feel is he did say it, just making the above as I thought there would need to be a witness for a seven game ban or similar).

His agent sounds like a pillock, "I told him to go to Bremen... he didn't listen to me" etc etc

Yeah, quite remarkable. Imagine being represented in the media by a guy who seemingly doesn't like you very much. Anyway, this seems like a good potential deal in everybody's interests*, so in the immortal words of Malcolm Tucker, fuckety-bye.

*except Bremen's, obviously, but best to kept that quiet.

Sounds like his agent had a better idea of how good he is. Quite clearly no good at this level.

I was very excited about this signing when it happened. He was fast and looked like a goal scorer. Thought he'd be good for us. So wrong.

Is he injured?

I haven't saw him making an appearance in a long time now, I thought he would at least smash a few in up in Scotland to maybe tempt some buyers.7

Doesn't look like it's going to happen for him. Time is running out now.

Isn't he stll banned for the racism comments?
