That's true.  He did well in the Champions League though last season, 6 goals in 11 games.

mine was a general comment, not a specific one

Aston Villa ‘preparing offer’ for Villarreal player – Unai Emery said to have ‘requested the signing’

Unai Emery arriving at Aston Villa means the Premier League club will now be linked with more players in the Spanish market. Specific attention will of course be paid to Villarreal, and Fichajes have started the ball rolling.

They report Villarreal are preparing for the possibility of another big name leaving them, this time from the playing staff. Unai Emery is said to have ‘requested the signing’ of Yeremy Pino, and Aston Villa are described as ‘preparing an offer’.

Fichajes believe Pino could be the biggest sale in the history of Villarreal, and they estimate his value at around €70m.

That alone would bring question marks over a move to Aston Villa, with the Birmingham club having invested heavily in recent windows and unlikely to want to spend so much on one player.

The 20-year-old has made 10 La Liga appearances so far this season, scoring one goal. He can play in a variety of attacking positions and is a full Spain international.

Pino has a good chance of going to the World Cup, which could see his value rise further.

This is perhaps the first of the Villarreal and Aston Villa transfer links, with more inevitably on the way.

Inevitable bit of speculation - not that I mind one bit!

Full Spain international? At the start of his career? I know nothing about him but I'm interested....

Yep. So far Danjuma and Pino have been speculated about.

Teamtalk in collaboration with the Birmingham Mail(you know this will be accurate)

Linked us to Pau Torres 😂

The irony of how narrow SG put out his team is that many of the players mentioned (Pino aside) are all through the spine of the team :D

Pau Torres would be on another level. I just can't see it happening. If we raid Villareal (which will be incredibly expensive) then I'd imagine it'll only be one of Pino, Danjuma, Chukwueze, or Torres. They'll see the money bags coming a mile off.

I'd like to see a deal done for Jonathan David but I think he's more likely to end up in a top 4 side/European CL contenders.

I'm kind of excited about the players no one has mentioned, or that we even know about. Emery must have a couple gems in mind that he has not had to bank balance for.

Maybe we'll go back in for Sarr now Gerrard has gone.

It’s possible that we’ll be setting our sights higher and looking for a higher level or calibre of player, more technically gifted and having performed at a higher level…

Emery will have extensive knowledge of what kind of talent is out there, having managed in different countries and competed in EL and CL.

We need to raise the standards in all areas really… if we can bring in players of a similar level/calibre to the manager… we’ll be flying.

But we may go for some young gems too, players with loads of potential…

Agree with this, and remember, we've now got the manager who signed Neymar and Mbappe for PSG. (Okay, I know they were more likely club signings but it sounds good no?)

I honestly don’t want to sign Sarr. From everything I’ve read he’s really struggled to get back to his best form prior to his injury. I also believe there’s a reason why he’s still at Watford. I think we can do better.

I think we can too…

There’s some real talent out there, we shouldn’t restrict ourselves to British based players…

Let’s keep setting our sights high…

Mind you… it’s one potential way to get Davis out… we need to sell the players that aren’t up to standard… need a squad too…

If there's a player from Watford I'd like for us to target it would be - Joao Pedro

I like Sarr, but Pedro would be first on my list from them.

We can do a lot better than Sarr.  Need someone more consistent.

I'd say half the managers in europe have requested the signing of Pino

quick google and he's linked to arsenal, chelsea and liverpool, the surprising thing is probably more a few of them saying he has a £42m release clause

Just pay it. He's got vast potential.

I don't think we as a club are in a place to be spending £60m on one player. We could still do with some 20-30m players before getting to 60m players and that is IF the owners want to continue spending so much

Possibly but he’s young and has huge potential. We currently have a £20m player out on loan, under Gerrard we had our record signing playing 15 minutes per week. If he is a player Emery wants then we should sign him.
