  1. 5-6 which I think I went with originally and up to very. We've some more of the Sky Sports favourites to play, which I think will probably inform us where our season will truly end up. Looking forward to playing Citeh and Arsenal. They'll be great gauges beyond our own optimism.
  2. Top bloke, had the season of his life last year, understands Emery-ball incredibly well, to watch him celebrate those offsides so hardcore tells you his belief in the system at large. Genuinely hope this is just a case of get 'er done, heal, mend and it is less like the Martin Laursen injury saga. I feel like we have pish poor luck when it comes to center halves and their knees (hello to you Mr. P McGrath)
  3. 100%. He gets pelters at times but he covers a gelluva lotta ground and fills in a lot of the spaces that get over looked. He would have been central to this season's Emery side.
  4. If you cannot be optimistic for this season, you may need medical assistance. So hyped.
  5. From this I see us being set up so well for a run at the Conference League. There is so much extra space and time in Europe. I'm not sure if our form of press will translate against every team in the PL but in Europe we will be laughably effective. It felt like the dress rehearsal for Europe. Repeat that against Valencia and we can really talk.
  6. He went missing a lot under Rogers at Leicester, I don't think Unai gives him a chance to do so and, with the players around him having that hunger that waned at Leicester, this is set up perfectly for a signing of the season. Form is temporary, class is permanent. I think Youri is a case in point.
  7. Foot is in the door. If we went into last season as we do this one, we'd have nailed that CL spot. Chelsea and Liverpool will be back, Spurs stronger. The challenge is exciting. Bring it.

    Peak Villa?

I'm 38 and so didn't get to enjoy 1982, the Coca Cola Cup was the first trophy I saw us lift. I always have a soft spot for the MON European days and then we hit the skids. I wonder, especially for some of the older lads. Does this feel like peak Aston Villa (to date)? I simply cannot recall a time with such a level of optimism, it almost feels as if the likes of Doug Ellis and Alex McLeish never existed. On top of this our squad is really strong, we have one of the great managers of our time, owners that really seem clued in and ffs, Monchi is Sporting Director! Monchi! Haha, it's comical how far we've come in 18 months let alone 18 years. I loved those Bluenose bashing 00s with Gabby, Ashley Young, Stan and John Carew but this feels like it's on another level. I cannot wait for the next optimism thread! What a glorious time to be a Villa fan.
  9. Match fit for preseason though? It's not really a thing. Providing you're not hobbling or carrying a niggle, you make the bench.
  10. For a minute I thought the 100m plus Rashford was a Monchi line. Pity it was Collymore.
  11. I feel like if you know he's on the way, you just walk out on your life and disappear.
  12. He's got that "knows his way around a butterfly knife" energy.
  13. It's refreshing to be on the buying side of a bit of a transfer saga. We might need a Villa Only Fans account we're so tight at the back.
  14. A fit and firing Coutinho would be amazing, it's not clear he can get near the levels required but, much the same as the misgivings some (not me) have around Bailey and Buendia, in Emery we trust.
  15. Feels like the Monchi affect is underway. All these random links strikes me as if Spanish clubs are feeding their media to drum up bidding wars.

    The NSWE Board

They're not f-k'in about any more. I think this is gonna be the most exciting pre-season ever.
  17. Harvey Barnes is decent, if he wasn't English you'd barely realise who he is.
  18. Every. Single. Time. Roma was a free hit and any criticism based on that is to do him a disservice, Emery hardly lit the world alight in Paris either. Only performing well in Seville is the talk of people who literally can't see beyond the Premier League. Sevilla are one of the most successful club in European football, particularly in the last decade.
  19. Couldn't agree more, from dogshit to dog's bollix in a few months. "I am also delighted and can’t wait to work with Unai Emery again, one of the best managers in football"
  20. At this rate Unai could ask for anything and he gets it.
  21. "What's that coming over the hill is a monster, is it a monster?!"
