Morgan Sanson

Whether Unai rates him or Sanson wants go succeed in the PL or is a good egg or a bad egg, simply he hasn't played football in 18 months because of captain knobhead. He's clearly not trusted to be up to speed to come in PL games. I personally don't think it's a case of rating him at this point. He needs games and can't be trusted to have an impact in his current condition.

With Sanson gone we should still have Dendoncker to tide us over and Mcginn when he comes back. Worst comes to worse, we could always move Ramsey back into central midfield and move Bailey back out wide. A replacement isn’t really necessary

Our bench against Southampton suggests otherwise.  A couple of injuries could really smash us, even aside from injuries you need options and fresh legs especially with the five sub rule now and the ability for the opposition to refresh their team second half.

Assuming we sign one more attacking player and Carlos is fit our bench would be picked from the following 10 players later next month. We've 18 games left this season.

Olsen, Digne, Chambers, Carlos, Cash, Dendoncker, McGinn, Coutinho, Duran, New Fwd.

This assumes Sanson, Nakamba, Augustinsson, Bednarek all leave. While Kaden Young, KKH, Hause, Traore are all out on Loan.

Yep, we might need some backup in certain areas. I just think we don’t really need it in midfield. We’re bare in the fullback, wings and striker areas. That last one should be solved when Duran gets up to speed.

It also assumes that we get no more injuries which is unrealistic.  The squad on paper looks ok but strength in depth/quality is an issue.  Options is an issue even if not used with the likes of Sanson going (keeping on topic 😁).

To me it seems obvious the club is trying to clear the decks for a couple of players. We now have two weeks to get these players in before our next game and get them up to speed. I’d be surprised if we don’t see them in before Friday.

Chambers and Dendoncker presumably get left out of that bench if we sign two more. Duran will only be given occasional minutes to expose him but won't be expected to change a game.

It's not bad, but the point does stand that one injury leave us very short on options.

A new forward (Deulofeu/Dembele?) and a new midfielder (Guendouzi?) gives us a better balance. Not suggesting those players strictly, but equivalents to them.

I'd suggest that new forward then takes Bailey's spot, Guendouzi takes Buendia or Ramsey's spot, and the two that then drop to the bench create real options both from the bench, or to start a different formation that isn't using necessarily weaker players.

We need 1 more, if we don't want an injury to unravel our season, we probably need 2.

Edit: realised we're in the Sanson thread before writing the above. To link it back.... I did rate him but I don't think it's a mistake to let him go. However,  like others have said, another midfielder coming in is now more of a necessity.

Yeah, I think he’ll go for good but interestingly Emery said “he’s a good player but needs to be playing consistently and that’s hard to give him here right now” etc etc, versus Nakamba where he just said “I’ve told him he should leave.” So there are definitely levels to it even though I don’t personally think we will see Sanson again.

Nah, he's rubbish mate. Three managers now not given him a chance!

(Or...he was injured a lot under Smith while trying to adjust to a new league, written off under Gerrard, a man who has no idea how to set up a midfield and played an underperforming McGinn for the full 90 every game. By the time Emery comes in, Sanson's match fitness and probably confidence is shot).

Then one  or two injuries then we are stuffed. We absolutely do need a replacement

Stand by my comments that he never got a chance here, and would have been a key player if he had. Too late now though as we've moved on beyond the level he could have contributed at and developed towards.

All the best Morgan,  hope we get some money for you in the summer.

Yup, still think when McGinn was awful I was hoping Sanson could get some matches....pity!

An enigma, wrapped inside a mystery, wrapped inside some sort of strange carrier bag.

If I'd seen him play half as rubbish as some of the players who kept their shirt since he's been here, then I could understand why he's hardly played.

As it is, he's always looked a skillful and tidy footballer when I've watched him.

Maybe they appreciate his plumbing skills? Or perhaps he's come to return that garden utensil he borrowed last week?

"Ooh, I've got a bush that needs trimming Msr. Sanson..." etc etc
