Showed the damage he can cause drifting out to left today and creating space for Jack and Barkley to run into. I'd still like at some point this season to have a run of games with Davis central and Watkins wider to see what that could do but I can understand why we're keeping things as they are. A couple of things didn't quite come off but his work rate, hold up play, linking and finishing were all top notch. Scary to think he's only going to get better. I just don't know who to believe He does the boring things well, which is more like an old style number 9 - closing down, tracking back, battling with defenders, so it probably comes across as lacking any input in the game. punkiller1981 Posted November 9, 2020 Share Posted November 9, 2020 I think people are saying he was not great up to the first goal because he did have a few missed placed passes and did look a little nervous but I think at the same time his hold up play was superb so over all I thought it was a decent performance without the goals but the finishing was outstanding so overall excellent performance from Ollie. Can score with both feet and his head, knows how to find space, holds the ball up, can take a player on, can flex his position to create a more fluid attack, he’s quick and powerful, and he scores penalties. TrentVilla Posted November 9, 2020 Moderator Share Posted November 9, 2020 I’m at risk of getting lynched here but hold fire for a moment when I say, I wasn’t that impressed with Watkins last night until his chances in the second half. In the first half I thought he was isolated, not all his fault by any means, he at times looked a little raw and struggled to get in the game. I think this is a regular thing with him when he isn’t getting chances. But... But when he does get a chance he is a predator and you always fancy him to score. He has had a great start for us, the goals show that, only Dean Saunders and Dion Dublin have had better starts in our colours which is some stat, personally I think there is a lot more to come. His all round game can develop significantly and he strikes me as the sort of character that will, if he does we have a real player on our hands. Personally I’d love to see us bring in a specialist striker coach to work with him and Wesley because I feel both have a huge amount of potential. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
