I’m at risk of getting lynched here but hold fire for a moment when I say, I wasn’t that impressed with Watkins last night until his chances in the second half.

In the first half I thought he was isolated, not all his fault by any means, he at times looked a little raw and struggled to get in the game. I think this is a regular thing with him when he isn’t getting chances. But...

But when he does get a chance he is a predator and you always fancy him to score.

He has had a great start for us, the goals show that, only Dean Saunders and Dion Dublin have had better starts in our colours which is some statutory personally I think there is a lot more to come.

His all round game can develop significantly and he strikes me as the sort of character that will, if he does we have a real player on our hands.

Personally I’d love to see us bring in a specialist striker coach to work with him and Wesley because I feel both have a huge amount of potential.

Don't see anything to get lynched about there. All seems fair enough, Deano said the same in his post match interview and I think Ollie himself would agree.

yeah i thought his performance was off first half. and drifted out to the wing a couple of times where i thought he was totally ineffective and can't cross to save his life.

methinks he was told to get in behind more 2nd half and stay more central so even before his 2 goals his performance was much better after half time

have fears that when wesley is back he will be put out wide...i sincerely hope not

Sometime goals blind people, his first half wasn’t great. I didn’t catch what Deano said after so that is interesting.

I've got the same worry when Wesley comes back and I'd hate it if we moved Watkins to accommodate a more limited striker.  I thought he was superb last night, especially in the second half, and even without the goals.   I much prefer it when he's allowed to stay central though, his ability to get into the six yard box for tap ins is something which can't be underestimated but the off the work ball is incredible at times.  The guy is powerful, intelligent, a hard worker and I really really rate him.  I'd like to see him get to 20 in all competitions this season, he's on 8 in 10. I guess how the FA Cup pans out is going to be a factor on whether he hits that milestone or not but he's on track at the moment.

His first 25 minutes weren't the best. Then he took a long ball and killed it dead from there his confidence went up and everything stuck. It was like a turning point in the game for him. Everything before that was pure Heskey shinning and touch of a proverbial lol.

I think Wesley would play a similar role in this side to Barkley. Barkley plays high up the pitch and central for most of the match but links midfield to attack. I could see Wesley being eased back into the side as a substitute in that role in some matches.

I love him.

His hold up play is great, he's strong, he's quick, he can finish, he joins attacks and passes well most of the time.

But my favourite thing about him, is that he has that anticipated movement that top strikers have. The ability to see where a ball is going before other players, giving him that extra second to react to a cross or pass before an opposition defender.

I love that about him, because I don't feel like that's a skill that most players have. Some strikers get by on strength, some on pace, some on a bit of trickery or just finishing ability, but Ollie has all of that in differing amounts, but also has that anticipation that top strikers have.

it's early days, but if he keeps up this level of performance then he should easily get between 15-20 goals.

He is a deceptively strong centre forward - doesn't look it, but he holds defenders off with some ease at times.  Even to the point where it isn't winning a header, but being able to bring the ball down and get us up the pitch.  People say he had a poor first half (and comparatively, he did) but even then he was doing this.  At one point we were under a bit of pressure and a ball got played long to him, held the defender off, took a touch, kept the ball and won a free kick.  Just relieved all the pressure we were under and got us 70 yards up the pitch.

Calvert-Lewin is getting a lot of praise for being one the best headers in the league at the moment.  Statisically, Ollie is right up there with him in terms of aerial balls won.  Again, you wouldn't think it to look at him, but he beats his man more often than not - and all when being "quiet".

Some people have mentioned confidence - I don't think it's a confidence issue that he has as such.  In my opinion, he's feeling the pressure of living up to a large transfer fee.  A couple more goals and I think that'll be pretty much gone and he'll start to loosen up more, which is a worry for the other teams in the league because he already looks a very handy player.

Put the ball into the box and him or Trez will get on the end of it.

His first was a trade mark goal of last season for him, rather than his second goal.

He made that second goal look easy but there was a lot of skill in the finish and it was a difficult one to take imo.

He’s going to be a club legend, I can feel it!
