Not his fault, he didn't choose for us to spend that amount, or to rely on him as our only striker. But it was a terrible decision. I can think of 3 games where he's looked a prem player. He's just not at this level and now after the injury I doubt he ever will. Hopefully we can recoup some of the fee for him next summer. I would say it should be labeled a “what if” signing. Not his fault Ben Mee is a shite footballer. The game he went down he was looking great.

I wonder if this signing was a reason why Pitarch lost his job in the end? Like you say he’s never really looked like doing it regularly in the PL.

He'd looked good against Everton and Norwich and never kicked on after those games. For me personally, I saw nothing to suggest he was going to be a good Premier league striker. 5

He actually looked more fired up last time he cam eon than i'd seen him as well. 2nd part could be true, but what was the point bringing him on last match, in the Premier League if true? Anyway, I reckon Caleb Chuk has been brought in as striking backup as well. This. I don't believe in character assassination. Here was a young lad who was brought into a newly promoted team in the Premier League and was expected to instantly lead the line with practically no other support. I also feel that he was never really played in the current position as he never looked like a out and out striker but more of a deep lying forward. The result was mixed to say the least however he showed some flashes of promise. Just as he was having his best game for us he was taken out by a fellow professional in a foul bordering on GBH. He missed well over a year of football and we have moved on. It has not worked out but I wish him well at Brugge to get his career back on track.

Wesley was ripping Burnley apart that match they had no way to deal with him and Ben mee just did him. it was a glimpse of what could have been. I would love him to regain his full fitness and be able to give 100% again. Not saying he ever will. I'm not stupid enough to think he was world class but he was young and learning his trade and shown enough to suggest he could be a player. 16
Ingram85
Completely indifferent on him as a player for us. Wish him good luck, hope he gets his career back on track and hope that one day he gets to shatter both of Ben Mee’s legs and retires him.
Mantis
He really wasn't that bad prior to his injury, and he had an ok if unspectacular scoring record. Not a £22m player but we've made worse signings.

I don't think it's an arsehole move to think he was ok or good in that match and not believe it was then going to be his consistent level. He was good against Everton as well. Indigo
Always wanted it to go well for Wes, has a great story and picked up some rotten luck on the way. Shame how it seems to have worked out but it's in part because we're progressing quicker than he is which is ultimately a positive. Hope the loan goes well and will be keeping as keen an eye as possible on him.

KentVillan
Re: pre-injury Wes... I think Wesley caused genuine problems for defenders with his physique (e.g. Everton H, Man Utd A, Arsenal A, Burnley A, Norwich A from what I can remember), and wasn't a bad finisher at all in the box. Certainly a very cool finisher. But he's missing something extra - either being more dangerous in the air, or being better on the ball technically, or having electric pace. I think he only needed one of those ingredients added to the physicality and poaching ability, and he would have easily been PL quality. But hard to see that happening now. Could see him having a good season back at Brugge, as he's probably developed his game considerably, despite the injury, and I think he's one of those who becomes unplayable when you go down a level or two. Be interested to see how he gets on.
Popular Post JAMAICAN-VILLAN
I get no joy out of seeing him being bashed. I think Partially, I really wanted him to succeed here, due to his life story. Added to that, I feel he was incredibly unlucky with the injury, and football at this level can be unforgiving. There is no telling what player he could have become by now, if he had an uninterrupted spell here, with the coaches, acclimatising etc. We need to remember he also started playing professionally at a much later age than most, 16 I think it was he started training properly? We've seen complete revamps of the likes of Matt Targett. Wesley was also unfortunate, to be thrown in at the deep end, in a generally poor team, as the record signing, so was under immense pressure and scrutiny, in large part due to fan frustration. Not his fault the club chose the route. Club Brugge fans seemed to love him, when he signed they came on here and spoke quite highly of him, his work ethic, and his character. So I'm not just going to call him a " bad apple ". Because as I've said, criticisms of.misdemeanors seem to vary based on how much you love the player. The kid got slaughtered for lashing out in a friendly, but Jack Grealish was adored after several serious offenses, for example. Anyway as I said earlier, will do him well to go back where he is loved, some things just aren't meant to be. Hope he has a successfull career and sets himself and family up for life. I take no joy from his " failure " and can't understand the almost celebratory attitude from some. maqroll
Good for all parties. Let's hope he scores lots of goals in Belgium and gives Smith something to think about next summer.
Tom13
He can pass, and he can finish. Everything else he looked off the pace with in fairness. Questioning his attitude is a little unfair, he's a bit of a sulky character but he was obviously always desperate to repay the faith we showed in him. I really wanted him to follow an underdog arc and prove the haters wrong, and it is a real shame Ben Mee ended his season like that. He could yet bang a load in for Brugge and come back and contribute for us, who knows.

Eidolon
Good luck to him, I always wanted it to eventually come together for Wesley but that injury as others have said just came at the very worst time for him and I just dont ever see him being what we need from here. Hopefully he can smash it on this loan and reinvigorate his career somewhere he's happy for a bit of a decent return on the money we paid
