Why should he, if the same thing doesnt apply to the other players? Yes, he was not good in that game, but who was? I have seen McGinn, Traore and Barkley have equally bad games, but they werent pulled of at half time

I agree that if a players isnt playing well, he should be substituted, but the same rule should apply to everybody, not only El Ghazi and Douglas Luiz

100% agree.

But he was particularly bad In that one game. Prob a 1/10 compared to 2/10 for the others you mention.

I’m a big fan of his, and have been very vocal on here re: my displeasure at him being dropped for Barkley.

But, honestly, that half was awful.  In spite of that I still wanted him back in on the left in the very next game.

It was probably the worst 45 minute performance from any one of our players this season. If I remember correctly, he was taken off at half time, something Smith never does with his players.

El Ghazi has really grown on me. He should start on the left for us, no doubt at the moment. That performance I mention though was paticularly bad.

Have you watched barkley play. Barkley has played all but 300 minutes of football for us at a worse standard than that.

I was intrigued by El Ghazi's stats ... pasted data off the BBC website into an excel spreadsheet.  ... Hid data for less than 480 minutes of play and the results are:

The results are ranked in terms of goals per 90 min of play. While it is questionable that if Anwar's play time was doubled his goal count would double, his productivity in terms of goals cannot be questioned. Past performance is no guarantee of future performance. Data accurate as of yesterday. Jack was at 0.3 goals/90 min

I still don't get why people expect him to be brilliant every single game. Every player bar the best have off games. For £8m odd he is an absolute steal.

I'd really like to see him cut down on the stinkers now. That will improve him immeasurably.

He's been here long enough, he knows the manager, he knows the role. It's difficult to be a consistently good Premier League wide player, don't think many are saying it is. It's much easier to lift those "bad" performances and contribute something even if not much is going your way.

That West Ham game was particularly bad, he isn't usually that awful on a bad day, but we've all seen him have a bad first 15 mins and just know he's going to be as much use as a concrete parachute.

In a tough spot the lad. If we play 4-3-3, which I always think Smith is itching to get back to, he's up against Jack Grealish for that left wing spot so he isn't going to be playing.

A bargain for £8m for sure, been a key part of some great moments.

Looking at his conversion rate he could have had more. I remember he should have had a couple against Burnley at home.

I get what you are saying but McGinn is exactly the same and gets nowhere near the same level of abuse.

Ollie's is 21%, could do better. Even Barkley's is 15% (and Jack's 25%). So all could do better.

Kane's 19% .... Bale is at a meagre 21%

So if a player manages to get a shot away every minute and has a 5% conversion rate that's some 4 goals every match

But it terms of conversation Emi and Tyrone win. ;)

  • He has 2 standout attributes....he spots opportunities, early...reacts quickly.
  • He must possess one of the best shots in the club.

If he could work harder generally, his stock would be much higher...but will always score, due to the above attributes.

I disagree.

But, I'll abuse McGinn a bit more next time he has a horror to balance it out.

Usually Dean doesn't like to talk about particular players much but his press conference he really opens up about Anwar.

Dean thinks he could be a top top winger ifhe just believes in himself. We can all see he has all the attributes. The way he plays is so similar to CR7 it's  uncanny. If only he had him confidence which you can clearly hear they are working on.

When he is on form he plays LW. If he gets cold put Jack back out wide.

Pretty much what I've been saying for ages. The only place it can come from is within.

AEG  and Watkins was the only ones trying to play one touch passing and set something up. His crossing was not good, but better than crossing from Elmo, Targett and Traore. One of the best Villa players today, which doesn’t say much.

Couldn't get over how bad that free kick was near the end. Nice angle to hit it in with pace and he hits slow cross that the first defender easily clears.

Seen him play worse but yeah he'll be out as soon as Jack is fit again.
