Played well and lost. Just one of those games.

1 point from 2 games against Burnley though - should have beat them twice.

Played well in the first half but you don’t win games in PL playing like we did second half.

We didn’t outclass them in the second half at all. First half we were exceptional but you don’t win anything in 45 minutes.

we were hardly outplayed second half either imo

Additionally, 2-1 up with Barkley clearly tiring is the perfect time to bring the likes of Nakamba and/or Trez on to shore things up. Smith still lacking that bit of proactiveness, even Dyche of all people made his changes and got the rewards.

Why are we so poor against the sides we "should" be looking to beat?

Brighton, West Ham, Soton, Burnley

We seem to raise our game against the big 6 then lose concentration against the lesser sides.

We have lost to 3 of the current top 4. The only one we didn't lose to was a Leicester side missing half their first team.

F*ck them, frankly.

We’re a better team than them. We should learn from this - we must learn from it - and move on.  There was some sumptuous football in that first half, but we needed to put it away.

Jack: leading isn’t just about smiling when you’re winning: get your teammates to dig deep. DS: consider not letting key players get gassed before taking them off. Ross: get fitter. And the board: maybe another forward would be nice this window?

This feels crap, but it isn’t the end. UTV

Why do people seem to think we had the divine right to win tonight based on the first half? We were crap second half and didn’t react when Burnley were on top.

Not divine right but we were out of sight first half and second half we at least equal to them.

The stats even show that it was a miracle they won that game.

We had 62% possession

we had 18 shots.

We had 78% passing, they had 59%

They made 8 critical saves

They had 5 shots on target and scored 3.  In fact 1 of their goals was a pass across the box that went in.

You never say never but you cant watch that game and say Burnley was a 3 goal team today.

True. We're still very much a work in progress. Burnley are old hands at shithousing wins in this league now.

Pope made 8 high quality saves. Barkley was really unlucky to hit the bar - that deflection helped Burnley a lot. It would have easily gone in otherwise.

Pope also wasted a minute of the stoppage time in the first half with his goal kick and the ref did nothing.

None of that, unfortunately, has anything to do with us leaking 3 goals against fvcking Burnley.

It's infuriating because for large parts we were so good and they were so bad

We've lost the game despite being the better team because we conceded 3 awful goals

Just like Brighton, just like West Ham.

The defensive side was woeful......"better" has to include that.

McGinn poor again.

Barkley worryingly shit again.

Davis still completely useless, I don't care whether it's 90 mins or 5 mins, it's painfully clear that he is not a winner.

Grealish unplayable. One of those games where he'll be seething with the efforts of those around him (apart from Ollie).

Martinez is brilliant but should have got a hand on two of those three.

Crap one unfortunately. Need a huge lift for Southampton or they'll do us again, too.

Indeed and yet people think McGinn is awesome.

I've been saying for ages McGinn is way too predictable, slow and quite weak. He was invisible most of the game!

Totally agree, bring on Trez and even Davis when we are winning. Davis to help on defending set pieces, Trez to track back wide. Don't bring them on when we need a goal.

In a nutshell

Unfortunately the same against west ham, brighton, Southampton this season where we offered more than the final result

I'm not surprised tonight, I predicted a 1-0 loss after 3 games in a week with the same 11 players after some of them had covid

We will play worse and win before the seasons finished.

Nothing has depressed me quite like seeing Keinan **** Davis plod on to the pitch in the dying minutes as we try to find a goal. How the **** was a backup striker not an absolute priority in January? We may as well raffle a spot on the bench.

Martinez had an absolute nightmare, but he's won us enough points, he doesn't deserve too much stick for an off day. We had more than enough chances to win that, could have easily gone in 4-0 up at half time. The difference was Pope had a great game, Martinez didn't.

Barkley and McGinn were dead on their feet. Subs came far too late.

Wheres Martinez had an off day there? You cant legislate for those last two goals. Particularly the last one just really really well placed from the striker.
