Vive_La_Villa
How can South America have games a day before European League recommence? Surely that breaches rules around preventing players from not being available for their clubs?

We don't know this for sure do we, I'd have them in the same boat, will Dougie even be a WC squad member, no disrespect to the Olympics but its only a glorified friendly tournament. I think Brazil have recognised that selecting PL players would see them stuck in quarantine for ages, so haven’t selected them. Probably helps that they have 6 wins from 6 in qualifying, so are more relaxed about dropping points. Be nice if Argentina would do something similar, but I personally think obvious solution is for UK govt to just relax the quarantine rules for international footballers. 1

WallisFrizz
He’s just posted a pic of him, Buendia and presumably the two Spurs lads on what looks like a private jet. They’re off then, we just have to deal with the consequences. I hope they at least do well and make it all worthwhile. It’d be great to see little Emi get a cap whilst a Villa player, not sure if he has before.

WHY
Imagine your record signing missing potentially a 3rd of the season, the record signing you bought in to replace your best player who ironically missed a 3rd of the season. Not blaming anyone but this is so Villa.
Delphinho123
We wouldn’t beat Chelsea even if they were back, so not the end of the world I suppose.
Popular Post useless
Aston Villa can confirm Emi Martínez and Emi Buendía have travelled to join up with the Argentina squad with the permission of the club in accordance with FIFA’s international match call-up rules. Both players have agreed to make themselves available for Argentina’s vital first two World Cup qualifying matches against Venezuela and Brazil but will not take part in the third international match against Bolivia. These arrangements mean that Martinez and Buendia will only miss our Premier League match with Chelsea before being available for the visit of Everton to Villa Park on 18th September in order to comply with the UK’s Covid quarantine regulations. There are no easy solutions as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to adversely impact professional sport. After careful consideration we think this plan respects the long established call-up rules and balances the importance which top players place on representing their countries in important matches with the best interests of Aston Villa. We wish all of our players who are joining up with their national teams the best of luck in their upcoming matches. https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2021/august/Mart-nez-and-Buend-a-join-up-with-Argentina/ 4
Popular Post WallisFrizz
Yep, brilliant compromise. Pleased with that in a far from ideal situation. Maintains harmony which is incredibly important and still allows our players to represent us at International level.

fruitvilla
So a reasonable compromise without the histrionics. Who would have thought Villa's management could do that? 2
maxjackle
They still have to spend ten days in a travelodge before that game- have 2 days to train after.
