cheltenham_villa
Wasnt a priority for me but hes 6/7 years younger than Heaton and dean has always been clear that he wants a senior keeper. This gives us 2. Further strengthens the starting 11 which is a priority. Wouldnt be surprised to see Heaton return to Burnley and Pope sold at some point. Rodders
I have a lot of sympathy for Heaton, personally. Will support whoever is number one, but just not a fan of how he has been treated, punished for being injured. I'd have much preferred a shorter term cover option if necessary.
MachoFantastico
Heaton needs more competition for the role, no offence to the other keepers but they're just not on the same level. Plus with Heaton's injury we can't wait right now. Solid move for the club.
Popular Post brummybloke
Heaton won't be available for 6 plus games. 4 of our first 6 games are winnable. 12 points I would say is probably worth close to 20 million.
villalad21
Martinez probably suits Dean Smith more. Being more comfortable playing out from the back. Heaton is more of the traditional, old school breed of keepers. Edited September 12, 2020 by villalad21

How has Heaton been punished? What is the club meant to do, not move forward? When Heaton is back he’ll be a good competition and really push Martinez on. Martinez makes mistakes Heaton comes in. Win win
The_Steve
I totally forgot we had Senderos on the books for a brief time. Whilst I do sympathise with Heaton, this is a great signing, and demonstrates that we will pursue top targets. A goalkeeper of his calibre will do the defence a world of good.
M_Afro
I am so excited by this. He is massive, a good age, athletic, commanding, can play out from the back, a sweeper keeper and a bit nuts. Ticks all the boxes and is a real show of intent from the club. Get in Villa

Strange way to look at it. Injuries happen; the club has to mitigate the impact.

I also recall he was rather low on numerous metrics used to rank keepers, save % etc. Not overly convinced by Martinez but Arsenal improved with him between the sticks and je seems highly rated by Arsenal fans. Whatever the "metrics" might say, Heaton is a top quality keeper. We wouldn't be considering replacing him, unless there were real doubts about his recovery from that injury, in my opinion.
R.Bear
20m for a 28 year old who's barely played 50 games in his entire career. Jesus christ. Is this really an improvement on Steer and Nyland?
