Without wishing to be ‘that guy’ yet again, if you’re concerned enough to be one of the few wearing a mask, you’d improve your shielding even more if you were clean shaven.

Ordinarily, I’ve got a sort of 1 week / 2 week action man stubble vibe. Right now, when I need to go to site, I make sure I’ve shaved.

It’s not a proper respiratory mask, it’s them billy basic, three ply things that I got from the corner shop for £1.50. I’ve got a couple of old T-Shirts out today and I’m gonna make a couple of cloth ones.

Afaik it’s another layer of basic protection to go alongside washing your hands, not touching your face (which the mask massively helps me with), social distancing etc, etc. Even If it only stops 50% of stuff getting in or out it’s a good thing imo.

It's kind of like that here. In the supermarket, maybe one person in a hundred has a mask. They look very selfconscious, and everybody else looks at them slightly pityingly/amused (but I'll bet many are uneasily wondering who's really the smart one...)

I guess depending on locality people act differently. I would estimate closer to in 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 were wearing masks in supermarkets from what I have seen (that was based on 3 weeks back but I have been getting delveries since).

Passing the time these last few weeks with working more hours than I ever worked ‘at work’, building wardrobes, planting bamboo in the garden to screen off the words removed at the back, painted the outside of the house, and slept a little bit. I seem to have even less spare time in this lock down. Would kill for a lazy afternoon watching telly.

I’ve seen plenty up here with masks and gloves on. Even in the local corner shops. What winds me up though is the amount of them I’ve seen that shove their fingers under their masks to scratch/rub their face. I mean what’s the **** point!

So, my understanding, and I’m absolutely claiming no specialist knowledge here, is that the mask has two or three functions.

Firstly, it can reduce your sneeze snot spreading quite as far as if you didn’t have it on. To me, that sounds sensible.

Secondly, it filters some air borne sneeze snot. That you could breath in from other people.

Thirdly, it reminds everyone there’s a war on.

That’s my understanding of what masks are for. In my experience with other things, such as pigeon shit and asbestos, the fit is very important. If there are gaps then potentially you create some sort of flue (excuse the pun) and actually potentially draw in more shit n dust and breath it in more deeply. Hence, shaving gives a better fit (in all manner of activities).

I can’t quote you any science on that. But it’s why I’ve shaved. Sounded plausible.

I've got work tomorrow then I'm off til next week so it's my first real test of trying to get through a significant amount of time stuck at home.  I've ordered some of my favourite beer online so I hope it comes in time, though I need to make sure I don't just spend 4 days getting shitfaced in my underpants.  I'll probably try recording some songs plus I've got my pool table.

I wore a mask to Tesco today as suggested by @maqroll and I got so many funny looks, people tutting at me etc.

I won't be wearing it again.

They were tutting because you aren't donning a gag ball in your mouth, you amateur!
