The links to Rashica are tenuous at best. This is a quote from Bremen's Chief Scout from earlier this week, BEFORE Jack signed his new deal

"They got in touch, yes, I can confirm that," he told Deichstube. "There is nothing concrete. There are a couple of requests for him. We are in intensive and close communication with his management."

Maybe I'm being pessimistic but that sounds like Villa doing it's due diligence more so than an actual attempt to complete a transfer.

As far as Jack positionally, he is most comfortable out wide. I'm not trying to pigeon hole him as a winger but even when given a free role he likes to drift out wide (mostly left) and cut inside. It just doesn't make much sense to put a winger on either side of him and crowd the parts of the pitch he prefers to operate in.

My preference for Villa with Traore signed. Find a CM that can replace Hourihane, preferably one that can cover the left side when Jack goes roaming. Let McGinn be the furthest forward of the middle 3 and let Jack run the show from a free role. With better attacking options Jack easily nets 25 goal contributions (goals and assist) and Southgate will have to bring him to Euro 21.

My friend may I direct you to the Rashica thread. It's full of fishy delight.

But Traore incoming. Apparently his best season was as a striker.

Maybe we could start introducing Barry too. Vassiliv didn’t do any bad last seadon. Actually when he came against Watford we won. Then against Brighton we got the draw.

If Samatta leaves, I don't think there's any way that we won't sign another striker to replace him, all it would take is for Watkins to pick up an injury and we'd be left with Davis as our only other option. We have other players who could perhaps play there, but we don't want to find ourselves in a position where we've spent all this money but only have Davis as our only specialist centre-forward for a lengthy period of time.

Percy said in his recent article that Smith's keen on another striker if Samatta leaves, and that's what I expect to happen.

Personally I would be waiting until deadline day or near to it to weedle out the players who were on our original list. By that point clubs will be desperate for cash but won't have the time to piss around and play silly buggers over fees before the window SLAMS shut.

Yep we should get what we desperately need sorted first and then go last minute shopping to get some depth

Exactly this, get a CM sorted if that's what they're prioritising, then if any sales are pulled off (insert kenneth here) before the end of the window we can piss a few more million up the wall on a striker option.

With four days to go until Sheffield United, I think we still have a lot of work to do in this window. I’d have expected more additions by now. I don’t mean to be negative as I’m hopeful of a good season but I think some of our fans are getting carried away with talk of European football coming back, etc. So far, at huge cost, we have acquired two players from the championship and a 28 year old goalkeeper who has never really been first choice. Two of those are non essential signings in my view. Heaton is targeting our fourth PL game for his comeback and I rate Guilbert at RB. We can’t say for certain that either of those signings will improve our first 11, which is what we desperately need. Watkins looks like he has what it takes but he’s still a gamble at this level. Traore has mixed reviews at best and Rashica looks far from a done deal.

I haven’t seen enough YET to suggest we won’t be in another dog fight this season. I’d like to see more steel down the spine of our team. We lacked some character for much of last season, albeit we finished well. I think we need two mature, experienced pros at CB and CM.
