Think its the opposite. He wants to be here but last manager want a fan which is fair enough

I think this was a Suso signing

smith went to france to watch him play. it's how he spotted sanson cause he played in the same game

i do think there was a falling out between the two though during his time here

Named in the Ligue 1 team of the season so far (so far, like a midway point award).

Not being funny but surely if we wanted to buy the current best right back in France it would cost us a fortune.

You have a source on that?

Not disputing you, just want to see the TotS for myself.

According to Transfermarkt, his contract with us expires in June 2023, there is still time to get him back and part of the current setup. The lad is obviously playing well, we need a RB, it doesn't stretch the imagination too far to think we should recall in him Jan (if contract permits) and give Gerrard and the new coaches some time to assess him

He was playing well and rated as one of the best right backs in Ligue 1 before we signed him, but that didn't necessarily translate to brilliant form for us, so I think people should guard against the idea that just because he's getting good ratings at the moment that it means he's going to come back and suddenly become much improved. Ah, maybe his game is just better suited to the French league than it is England.

I always liked Freddy…

No, he’s not “world class”… but I can’t remember him showing a lack of effort… or his poor performances or errors being solely responsible for costing us a bucketload of points

He was really good in our pre season when we had a game in the US when we had Jota in the team too. I thought he was nailed on to be our 1st choice RB. New manager, clean slate and all that and even if he is 'only' a backup RB, it would save us having to enter the market in the next 18 months and we could invest the money we would spend on a new RB on other areas of the pitch

I’m optimistic that we don’t have to spend money on a new RB, or not a long term one anyway, as I hope our long term RB is currently on loan to Swindon Town 🤞🏻

I agree with that, but we need some cover till he makes it to the first 11. It would be a bonus if Freddie could fill the gap till Hayden is ready

If he has two years left just sell him for 5-10m and make a tidy profit on someone who'd likely only come back to warm the bench.

We really need to get better at selling squad players who show reasonable form either for us or elsewhere rather than pretty much having to give them away near end of contracts.

I don't think any of AEG, Freddy or Hause will be here next season as they've all done jobs for us but none of them have quality to take us to next level yet we could still get about 20m + for the three of them if we box smart.

Yeah, I wouldn't be against on cashing in on some fringe players, or some of the first 11 if I am totally honest

The Guilbert scenario for me is a really weird one.

One of the best/better performers in the French League, especially for a full back, but we seem to keep loaning him out and either a) not bringing him back as backup, or b) selling him on for some cash.

The constant loans seem like a strange nowhere ground, as he has proven he is fairly decent, yet no-one is interested in signing him?, seems wacky to me (or maybe we have had bids and rejected, or he wants to run his contract down? - dunno).

I like Fred G, but I can't see him fitting SG's style. He's an old school fullback, first real slide tackle specialist we've had since Mark Delaney. Can't see a future for him in The Project, sadly.

i probably agree, but then i cant understand with his decent/good performances why we cant find someone to buy him, and we keep shipping him out on loan.

I actually think Fred is quite similar to Cash. Loads of energy but not great final product.

Never got a fair crack under Smith, for whatever reason. Maybe his surly demeanour didn't fit into the culture that Dean did such a good job to create.

He's good enough to be a Prem footballer IMO but I'm not sure it'll happen here, especially if Kesler impresses.

I don’t know about that. Based on fbref stats he’s significantly better offensively compared to Cash. It’s much bigger upgrade than Digne over Targett.
