decamoto
good player to be able to call upon when closing a game out. Whelan Jedinak with Terry Chester behind as our spine should be impenetrable when holding onto a lead. Just need to find a non-kodjia way of scoring a few goals now and creating one

This isn't directed at you particularly but VT has developed this trope that Bruce played 11 men behind the ball at home to Burton. I was at that game and it's absolutely nonsense. We won 2-1, Bacuna had his one good game of the year and scored a header and in the 2nd half Grealish & RDM were linking up really well playing little one twos around the box. It was the best I saw either of them play all year. Also ex-Villa youth player Jamie Ward scored a cracking goal that a lot of Villa fans applauded. Popular Post JAMAICAN-VILLAN
Quote Discovery Stoke: Helped us get promoted. Helped us get to an FA Cup Final. Helped us compete in Europe. Helped us become a stable top flight football club. Helped us become a top 10 premier league football team. An absolute legend, hope we get to see him at The Bet365 again soon to give him a proper send off/appreciation britvic72: Thanks for the memories Glenn. Mr consistency and worthy of kissing the badge. You've given your all to us. Good luck Lakeland Potter: Reading the news on the official site just now was a bit surreal. I never expected to read a news article commenting on the sale of a player from Premier League Stoke to Championship Aston Villa! How times change! Anyway, Glenn leaves with my best wishes. I sometimes found him frustrating but never for one moment did I doubt his committment to Stoke City. A great servant to the club - he can be proud of his efforts. I wish him well. Vermillion: Cheers Glenn. Gave you stick at times over the years but almost always proved me wrong. Hope you succeed at the Villa! MrCoke: This transfer has the feel good factor. Glenn has been one of the clubs greatest players in the sense of service, dedication, and the general way he has conducted himself. He has struggled during the last couple of seasons and it is time for him to move on. It would be wrong to hold him back in reserve, just in case, and the club have done right to let him go for a reasonable fee and let him enjoy regular football in his final years. Thanks Glenn for everything Big lad180: Great servant to stoke city should leave with everyone's best wishes. True pro. Onneravineet: Model pro who actually deserves this move to, let's face it, a massive club who will probably come up next year. He also deserves the accolades that will come from those that were both sniping and and giving Karma back then! Olgrligm: It's a sad day. Whelan will probably be the best signing that Villa have made for probably the last three years, at least since their decline started. There will be a lot of attention around John Terry, but I suspect that Whelan will have the bigger impact on their performance next season. jimmygscfc: I salute you, Sir. We wouldn't be where we were today without you. Have a good season and, who knows, we may meet again next season in the Premier League. Cheekymat71: Always liked Glenn, a leader and good footballer to boot. We can definitely give him LEGEND status at Stoke. Would be happy to see him back at the club in a coaching role later on. Podolipotter: Thank you Glenn Whelan for your positive attitude at all times and for the hours you have spent helping Stoke City Fc attain and retain Premiership status. I salute you sir and wish you every good fortune in the remainder of your career (except when playing against the Potter). Andylgr: He's been excellent for us in his near 10 years here. One of the unsung players of the squad that would do the dirty work for the team with a great attitude and work ethic for the team. In this era of football, style over substance, that side of the game seems to be sadly underrated and overlooked. Cheers Glenn. Corned beef legs: Good Luck Glenn, and many thanks for helping us out of the wilderness. STOKE FANS - Yup I would probably rather take some of their insight into the player they have had for 10 years, as a pose to...... yeah/ http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/glenn-whelan-farewell-messages-bode-13360860

markavfc40
This is an excellent signing and like with John Terry it is not just about what he can give to the team in his own performances it is about what his presence in the side can bring out in others.

sne
For me it's not as much age as mobility that is a worry. (Not Whelan in isolation but generally in the squad) Hopefully we'll have a style of play and system worked out that will counteract this flaw. Vive_La_Villa
Great signing. It's no coincidence our premier league signings have been the better players. They can handle the pressure and hopefully it rubs off on to the players we have signed from smaller clubs.

itdoesntmatterwhatthissay
So frustrating to sign another midfielder who is a bit of everything but not great at anything specific. However, Terry and Whelan are two great spine players and we desperately need a spine. He's not as quality a midfielder as some oldies but he will surely be a worthwhile cover player at the very least. Plus, he won't last long which is good for younger players.
PompeyVillan
I've seen Whelan play loads of times. But I couldn't tell you what sort of player he is. I also can't find any sort showreel on YouTube for him. Welcome Glen.
Vive_La_Villa
If a player is an ever present in a midtable premier league team yet is never noticed it must means he just goes about his business allowing the more creativity players to play. Its exactly what we need.
