Never rated him as a player but he might be able to make a positive contribution at this level. Would be another player who we would have to get rid of if we do get promoted this season which is a bit worrying. We are signing short term stop gaps rather than building something sustainable.

All I can find on youtube is two screamers, some filthy tackles and clips of a CG version of him scoring overhead kicks on FIFA.

That's about the usual amount of research for the Villa scouts so I'm sure Brucey is happy with that.

I see your point but I don't think it's really possible to build sustainably at this level, you need short term instant impact to get up. To build in a sustainable manner you need time but every year in this league we get left further behind. We could build from the bottom in the Premier League, but we need to get there first.

Can't wait for Bruce's dream to become a reality.

Close, but you need Samba where you've got Jedinak, who himself goes where Lansbury is, then drop Bjarnason and Elmohamady deeper as we can't have them higher than Kodjia - they will have to defend first and foremost!

To be fair, the scorpion kick goal was pretty impressive. 12-1 to Stoke just after half time.

Ive read lots of nice and flattering things being said about him in a stoke Twitter feed 'describe whelan in three words'. Words such as 'legend', and 'god' have been bandied about by some stoke fans.

Also, it's worth noting that a couple have posted things like 'only passes sideways' and 'always passes backwards', so he should slot into our squad nicely

Wasn't he pretty much a nailed on starter at Stoke all but last season?

Provided the pass either a) goes to the opposition or b ) out for a throw in, yes, he should fit in very easily

If he was good enough for the premier league he'd wouldn't be dropping down a division. He's on the decline.

Played in 30 league games out the 38 last season too .

Let's change his name to Glenaldo Whelanhino from the Real Madrid Youth team and see if we get a better reaction from the VT faithful.

Or Stoke are looking to improve on him to make a push for upper mid table, top 6 and he didn't want to accept being a squad player?

So he has good enough for the Premier League 30 out of 38 games last season, but not good enough for us in the Championship this season?

Or as a squad option if we go up?
