3 points from the relegation places.

Tomorrow is the time to stop **** around with 5 at the back and 2 up front.

I'll be disappointed if we're going down that road again. There is nothing in Ings and Watkins up front together supported by the expectation of all our attacking threat coming from Targett and Mateusz

4-3-3 Luis McGinn and Ramsey behind Ings  Watkins and Bailey. Watkins out wide. We also have ElGoalzi and Traore as wing options. And Buendia.

Pfo with 5-3-2. There's no reason for it

I agree with the sentiment entirely but why play Ollie out wide when you have Buendia and    Traore (and arguably AEG) who have played that position far more effectively in the past? One of Ollie or Ings needs to start on the bench, 100%. I would start with Ollie with Ings to play super sub if required.

Honestly wouldn't surprise me if Bailey was shoe-horned in at LWB as he was vs Everton in a bid to fit him, Buendia, Ings and Watkins into the team. Not that I'd agree with it, but can see it happening.

I agree. I would be disappointed to see Ollie start out wide tomorrow when we have more than one wing specialist sat on the bench. This is just more shoehorning but in different formation. Pick a formation and play the best players for the positions in that formation, even if that means a ‘better’ player starts on the bench.

peak Barcelona by the sound of some of the comments this week

I don't think it's because they are any better than us in a footballing ability sense but they are consistently strong physically and very good at set pieces both of which are right on the money as to our weak points. We seem full of lapses in concentration generally and are highly likely to have brain farts in defence... exactly the things a team like them will be good at exploiting.

And yet probably our worst overall performance of the season so far was against a team (Arsenal) that were ideally suited to our strengths. It's true that West Ham have strengths where our weaknesses lie and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they beat us comfortably, but I really do think people are building them up to be this amazing world class team when they're just not.

They're currently 4th in the table and finished 6th last season. Compared to where we are right now, they might as well be world class opposition.

We will get slaughtered if he plays both Ings and Watkins and that 3-5-2 formation again. I just don’t believe that Smith doesn’t see that it isn’t working. Big, big match for him tomorrow.

I’m confident we’ll revert to the usual formation, and if I were Smith, I’d be tempted to stick Archer on the opposite flank (to Bailey).

I’d give Buendia another run in an advanced central role, he just needs to adapt to the scant amount of time and space you get in this division.

The players better put a shift in for him tomorrow as well.

They are largely culpable for this predicament.

A couple of brainfarts, passes directly to opposition, lack of effort i'd say has cost us at minimum 3 - 5 points imo,

Also, fans will be needed more than ever.

Agree. Mings need to get his act together. He is hardly being a captain for this side right now pointing the finger all the time, getting stupid yellows constantly, slicing clearances under no pressure, just being poor all round.

It’s doesn’t feel like long ago that people were begging Dean Smith to play two up top, and the ‘DS will never play two up top’ thing kept getting repeated. Now he has done, people are adamant they want to go back to one up top.

I’m not defending our recent performances… but I do trust the manager to make the right call.

Fans were calling for a plan B to be fair when every game we set up the same regardless of opponent. Every manager had easy work to prepare for us last season after Jacks injury. We were shocking for large parts leading to calls for a change in tactics, as would be the same in any club when you start performing poorly and losing games.

Now we have that plan B, its like he’s totally abandoned plan A. I really hope he realises the players dont look comfortable at all, or happy, playing in a way where they all look awful. Its like they’re voting out there  out there on the pitch that it needs changing. My worry is Moyes will anticipate this, and he certainly nullified that very formation in the corresponding fixture last year. I dont want him to lose his job, love the bloke but he’s making a rod for his own back atm

 Not sure.

He is usually very stubborn with these things.

Remember how long it took for him to finally drop Barkley.

He has to go 433  - I am concerned he has been so defensive about it by repeatedly saying it isn’t a systems thing as the why we have been shit recently.

He has, but I fail to believe he’s stupid enough to try it again.

Of all the things that are wrong with the 3-5-2, the Ings/Watkins partnership is the most glaringly obvious deficiency.

The team picks itself if Smith has the balls to leave one of Ings/Watkins on the bench.

It was a difficult one with Barkley, Barkley was so key in that great run we had at the start of last season but he just never recaptured that form after the hamstring injury picked up against Brighton.

Only my opinion, but in general I don’t think we look anywhere near as good when we play with a 10, which is being proven recently with Buendia in that role.

Today Dean has to make a choice if he’s going to start Bailey, it’s got to be 4-3-3 for me whatever he does but does he play Bailey on the left, Buendia on the right and one of Ings or Watkins in the middle? Or does he go Bailey on the right, Watkins on the left and Ings in the middle? He might keep Bailey on the bench and go with Watkins left, Buendia right and Ings in the centre to start.

This 100%, my one gripe about him! He will persist with something even if it is not working. But sadly this season he can't keep being stubborn, only 3 points off relegation, I think if Smith insists on this formation it will cost him his job.

Get back to basics, get Bailey on from the start, drop Watkins go. 4-3-3.
