This is obviously true, as you can easily see the lack of movement in the market. There is however the argument we're not in the position of most other clubs.

We survived by 1 point and looked dead and buried for large parts of the season.

Our recruitment from last summer failed more or less and the very few that looked half decent took a long time to gel with the squad and settle down.

Our strikers have been a complete failure all season.

We don't have a lot of room for errors in terms of preperations for next season, so getting in a few faces as early as possible would be a huge advantage.

Our recruitment from last summer succeeded. It may have been by the skin of its teeth but they succeeded.

Not sure about that. We survived in spite of our recruitment.

Our recruitment last summer was dreadful. Summed up by the fact we’re trying to replace everyone we signed in this window.

It didn't succeed, far from it. You can't use the fact that we stayed up as justification for the largely poor signings we made.

Are we? F**k me. That's a big task.

I missed it where this got mentioned though.

What criteria are you basing your assessment on? I would say we made signings on the basis that they would be good enough to stay up (succeeded) and that they increased in value - tough one to gauge but probably as a whole the squad is worth more than last August (succeeded). Although there is the fact that the global pandemic has had an effect on player values but no club is immune to that.

Has anyone been on the RB forum to see how their rashica thread is coming along? Bet we are kicking their arses!

Our recruitment succeeded in its most basic sense. To put a team together that can survive its first season and begin the process of building a PL squad.

Clearly we expected a better return and Suso has paid for it. But it's harsh to be over critical. We had a lot to do and lost key players to long term injuries.

So not great but just good enough. And now we have a nucleus of something to build on.

The one I looked at had 9 pages, they seemed to think that €15m was as high as the club should go for him in the current state of the market.

They rather use the money to resign Angelino and Schick

You’ve certainly carpe  diemed with that little beauty. I’ll be expecting all your posts to be in Latin from hence forth. It adds a touch of class to the place. Which is not the kind of thing you’d find on a SHA site, that’s for sure.

I think that's a weird train of thought. While staying up was everything that mattered, we stayed up because of Jack Grealish, not Samatta, Trez, AEG, Wesley etc.

We would have absolutely slaughtered our summer recruitment if Sheffield United had more luck with the tech. or Watford scored one more goal. Trying to pretend it wasn't cause we stayed up with one point is absurd.

We achieved the big goal of the season, but that does not mean the summer recruitment was successful.

The season might have been a success, but it was more in spite of our recruitment than because of it.

Yeah it was pretty much down to Jack. We signed what 5-6 defenders last summer and had second worse defence in league and our strikers scored six goals all season so pretty poor in two key areas.

In any case we need to be signing players now who have potential to lift us into a top half team in next 2-3 years so that needs a massive upgrade on what we signed last summer.

At midnight tonight we should all dance naked in Milot Rashica face masks starting off with the slow chant of RASHICA, RASHICA  then slowly upping the crescendo until it is a quick very loud scream (a bit like the Haka) ending abruptly at 12.01. These should be captured on film and then sent to his twitter account
