I don't disagree, but surely you can see that the circumstances are hugely different?

Firstly we have a better squad now than we did then. Our squad then was appalling.
We'll keep more of our squad together than last time so have less rebuilding to do.
We're in a far stronger financial position, particularly if we get 100 odd million from selling Grealish/Mings/McGinn (I'd like to keep them but I'm being realistic)
And maybe most importantly, the club isn't rotten to the core like it was last time. We were in free fall.

That squad was poor, I’m not sure it was that much worse than the current one though?

Guzan, Ciaran Clark, Hutton, Amavi, Bacuna, Sinclair, Westwood, Veretout, Traore, Carlos Sanchez, Gil, Grealish & Ayew.

Most of that lot played top fight football in one of the top leagues for several season after we went down. Not sure many of the current squad could do that. I’d take a lot of that squad over the current one.

As I have said before Big Sam would work on a short term contract and he said as much on Talksport.

For all those who are saying you would rather be relegated under Smith than give him a chance, how would it be worse to be relegated under Sam than Dean?

I think our squad is a lot better now than it was then, at least as a unit. I think that was one of the worst squads the Premier League has ever seen. Plus we lost or got rid of a lot of those players when we went down (or before the window was closed) so it doesn't really count.

I guess I should have said "the squad leftover from the relegation season that we used in the championship will be better now than it was then"

Someone Please tell me why JT would be a bad appointment?

I’m leaning towards I’ll leave it to the professionals as I’m torn like a schizophrenic about Smith staying/going... Seen posters say no to Terry with no explanation ... He knows the squad and club, the board know him and his skills and he has played under world class managers... Flip side is he has no experience, is a bit of a prick, and who knows his role in our current misfortune...

no managerial experience, never faced a relegation scrap in his career, it would be a baptism of fire similar to when Alan Shearer thought he could save Newcastle.

And dont say look at Lampard. He's blessed with top quality squad. players like William (nearly on the same level as Hazard for skills) Pedro, Giroud, Kante, azpilicueta, What I call Foden syndrome: any average kid who looks class playing with top draw players every ball perfectly into stride. always options left and right if you're in the sheight. easy road to the top. Try being Grealish surrounded by deadarses!

leave it to the specialists. If you can't afford Rafa (or that slimy clearing in the woods purslow wont work with him) you have to get Sam.

I think terry is too smart to take it anyway if offered. 1) it would piss off the smith lovers as would look like he manipulated the whole thing - bad PR

                                                                                             2) he knows the players are mostly bottle jobs.

                                                                                            3) think he likes his easy lifestyle, bit of training, bit of fishing, holidays every month, plenty of instagram, no stress, must have a couple of slags in birmingham on the go, I certainly would.

For me it's all about staying up. It gives you a Summer to build & invest. Going down means starting over. If Sam would take it on I would go for it,  i think it may be too late for even the fat one to turn it around but I'd give it a go

Exactly.

This "philosophy" we supposedly have, has done nothing but serve up some of the most awful, ineffective, football in my lifetime. If we have to put that on hold, for the sake of Premier League survival, then I think I can cope with that. Our football really can not get any worse, whether that be Warnock, Sam, Pulis, Terry.

For all the Smith lovers and saying big Sam football is dour Smith's this year has be utter garbage. You do anything to stay up in the Premier League we a no guarantees to go up again in one year.Under Smith where in a rot and nothing has improved.Need a fresh voice.

Sams over 60 he won’t want a long term so I don’t understand this he I’ll want a three year deal. It would probably suit him to have a year deal for now. EVen if we went down I fancy Sam to get s straight back up. He has done it before

your last sentence makes nonsense t0 me either. You would rather go down so I agree with that completely

Why is he “a bit of a prick?” I think that’s really unfair. He has been nothing other than a top professional in his time at Villa. He has made a few mistakes in the distant past, which have no doubt been spun and blown out of all proportion by the red tops but surely he deserves a bit of forgiveness and a second chance.

As patient as I've been and in support of Smith, I'm at that point I have to agree.

This Philosophy of Smith's has been a disaster in the premier. Smith Philosophy was sposed to be designed on possession based attacking play, we can't even get the ball out of our half most games let alone attack, so that is none existent most of the time. We have trouble keeping hold of the ball, and we have players making idiotic mistakes every game, there is always something going on.

I'd be a millionaire by now if I'd of gone to bookies to bet on Villa to let at least two goals in, maybe I should of, irritating isn't the word for what's going on here at this club. You'd of thought by now that wed of cut some of the mistakes out, I don't see it happening, we are completely useless.

This is what had swayed my love of DS, over the whole season there has not been any improvement on what we were doing in the first match. In fact you could argue we have declined over the whole season.

Smith has made us worse over the season, that is reality.....

It doesn't matter he is one of us,

It doesn't matter that he comes across as a nice bloke,

It doesn't matter that he won 10 matches in a row.

What matters is he is doing a crap job and when you're doing a crap job you get the ass.

If we lose to Chelsea, I hope it's by more than one goal! A close loss may prolong the inevitable

(Of course I want us to win!)

Then he would make similar signings to Bruce and then we are back at square 1.

He has never left a club in a positive state and everyone including Everton found themselves in the bottom half of the table as they are stuck with shit like Walcott on big contracts

Thats speculation. Also can i add that bruce is the one that signed mcginn tammy and hourihane who made a massive contribution to our promotion.

Yes he made some bad signings like bree, hogan bolaise etc but the core of the above was not as bad. Id say di matteo wasted more money than Bruce did.

Why did we need to replace 12 players in summer?

Bjarnason was a Bruce signing, Hutton he gave a new deal to.

Wasn't really a direct criticism of Bruce but we are trying get away from that issue

Have to say I'm not sure on Smith now. I would go for Sam as he has the experience.

The romantic in me believes in Smith saving us but nothing has changed since Christmas to make me believe he can turn this around and, if anything,  we are going backwards (and downwards!) Think we need a kick up the arse which Sam would provide.
