Still not up to sprinting capacity as before his injury, he is a long way off, looks really unlikely he'll play a game this season.

Comparing his social media posts to VVD is like chalk and cheese VVD already seems far more mobile and advanced in his recovery.

So a player who has moved half way across the world to ply his trade, had to suffer a career threatening injury at the hands of the biggest thug in English football, spent 12 months getting back to fitness so he can repay the faith put in him by the club, and having probably spent a significant part of that 12 months in pain.... is being called a waster. Defies belief.

Well said mate. Not forgetting he can't even socialise during the lockdown. Must be very strong mentally to cope with all that. Come on Wes, hope you prove lots of people wrong. We're not all haters on here.

Different injuries. VVD only did his ACL. Wesley did his PCL and (also I think another ligament as well). The PCL takes a lot longer to recover because it is much bigger and is the one on the inside of your knee. It is really hard to fully tear or rupture them but I think Wesley did.

In the flip side it should be quite hard to reinjure and once he gets fully fit it shouldn't have the same hamper on athleticism that ACLs often do.

If you feel the ligaments on the outside of your knee it is really thin sort of like the thickness of a pencil or there abouts. But the PCL is kind of like as wide as a rasher of bacon. The ACL and PCL are under the knee cap so you actually feel them but they are similar sizes to those ones.

Hope:-

He comes back and scores a load of goal s for us.

Expectation

He might get the odd cameo appearance before end of season - think he will then move on series of loans - before retiring.

I think my expectation is slightly more optimistic than yours, in expecting he becomes a better sub option than Davis by the end of the season... but it's fair to have low expectations given where he's coming from.

Hope is exactly the same.  As much for him as for Villa.

What's the source on PCL injuries taking a lot longer to recover from?

I had a bit of itk - while back now - that his injury was career threatening......hence my gloomy prognosis.

Its disgusting if he doesnt kick a ball until the start of next season as a result of this. Best part of 20 months out, also at a really important stage of his career. You then question, as others are, whether he can perform at this level. So unnecessary the whole thing.

I view Wesley and Heaton both as stopgaps and the best we could get last season.

Now i look at us moved on from them. Emi is a much better keeper than Heaton and it's not even close. Watkins is better than Wesley and with a much higher potential.

I can see us moving him on in the summer and i wish him all well.

Wesley has one leg that is significantly shorter than the other. That’s why he limps when he walks and has a slightly odd gait when he runs. I imagine it’s quite a complicating factor in his recovery.

It was also mentioned a few months ago that he had some complications after the surgery that meant he was delayed in returning to Brazil by 8 weeks. 8 weeks sounds like some pretty serious complications to me.

Smith said that the COVID  outbreak had put Wesley back 10 days so that makes him about 10  weeks behind schedule just based on what is in the public domain.

Villa fans need to cut Wesley a lot of slack for a very long time because when/if gets back onto the pitch he is going to take a long time to get back up to speed.

Villa have invested a lot of money in him and there is clearly a huge gap he could fill in our squad. The club needs him to come good and the fans could help by having some unconditional good will for him.

Toxicity from Villa fans towards Wes is just stupid. It’s true that before his injury Wesley hadn’t established himself as a quality Premier league player but at that point neither had a whole gaggle of our players who have since shown the necessary quality. He had shown flashes of quality (just like Douglas Luiz) but had also struggled. Based on the progression of his teammates we might have had a top quality striker in Wesley by now. The point is that there is no way that he had got to the writing him off stage.

So be nice!

Exactly this, well said.

I can’t. He might not even be up to playing by that point. I think the club will feel they owe it to Wesley to rehabilitate him fully and give him a chance.

He ain’t a kid that’s had a career threatening injury that he may never recover from. He’s just a highly paid football that we can just dispose of if he doesn’t recover. That’s why it’s fine to call him Donkey, wasteman or whatever else is posted by our fans.  Plus not like he reads it right?

I expect this kind of shit from kids on social media. Disappointing to see it here.
