That’s half our team! He was a crap coach but to say he rarely signed quality is not accurate. How many of those will be able to cut it at Premier League level? Bolasie and possibly McGinn. Maybe Hourihane. He also signed Whelan, Lansbury, Elmohamady, Taylor, Nyland, Bjarnason and Hogan. How about his signings for Sunderland and Hull? Yeah but you're talking to a guy who thinks Bacuna is a quality player. 1

I don’t think you can judge his signings for a championship team on whether they can make it in the Premier league. I also thought his signing were decent for his previous clubs. If anything it was his signings that leds to his successes as a manger. A lot more so than his coaching!

Last season we had two good signings in Snodgrass and Terry. From what we’ve seen from Bolasie, I guess he’s an upgrade on Snoddy, so Cahill might fill Terry’s boots or even be a better short term signing. As long as we can have as much weapons as we could for this season, to help us go up, as much as we can build up a team next season. Fulham spent more than 100m. But it wasn’t the wisest movement. Cardiff are beingbmore realistic with less money spent (although Fulham have a much better chance of staying as a swuad and performances). We have some quality, we need to capitalize on that. We need Abraham or someone similar so thats a 25-30m player (or if we could have another loan of him up there while we look other places to find players). For now we need to go up, with spend as less as we could. We can’t attract promising players while we’re here apart from the likes of McGin who no one noticed him. We can only get some good PL players who are in their end of their football life. So for the longer term, loans are the best.
AvfcRigo82
Not sure on having both Leighton Baine and Gary Cahill. Either one yes but not sure taking both on loan. Hutton - Chester - Cahill - Baines Would make a defence a combined age of roughly 128yrs old. Would that work in this league?..
Zatman
I dont see us moving for Cahill. Smith has no issues playing young centre backs. He did it at Brentford and has confidence in Tuanzebe

MaVilla
Baines?, really? Old, slow, will get turned over with a high back line while we press up field, no long term benefit, have we learnt nothing at this club???

If you tried to buy those two now it would cost you £100m. Bruce wasn't terrible in the transfer market at all. Every manager signs duds. His failings lay elsewhere.
Dodgyknees
Let's stop thinking short term. We need to be finding the next Baines.

PieFacE Posted December 7, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted December 7, 2018 Baines would be a terrible signing. But very typical of Villa over the past few years. Cahill would be decent but I can't see it happening.
striker Posted December 7, 2018 Visiting Supporter Share Posted December 7, 2018 Baines and Cahill would be typical Bruce signings. Thankfully Villa have a new forward thinking manager who will probably be looking elsewhere.

Mazrim
Wow, really? Cahill would be amazing for us. Way better than Chester. Would have the same affect Terry had but with more miles left. Yes please.
