Eh. FT was brilliant, but there are only 12 episodes. The quality, line for line is higher, but OFAH has more highs from the sheet longevity, and allowed the characters room to grow and become loved by the audience in a way that you're never going to get in such a short run as FT. FT was also almost purely comedy, whereas OFAH strayed a bit closer to drama in some episodes, with some being really touching or upsetting, so by comparison FT was a lot more one-note, IMO. I haven't watched either of them in well over a decade though, and doubt I will again, they hadn't aged well the last time I saw them
Seat68
If OFAH was on tonight I would watch it, FT was, for me at least, excruciatingly bad at the time and subsequent clips I have seen do not change that. Perhaps because I feel Cleese is an untalented charlatan that has been stealing a living.

Amsterdam_Neil_D
On the subject of Coke Cola, I love it. In the early 70's did anyone else's mom buy the Rola Cola own make supermarket "drink" stuff, 15 p a liter ? And say the immortal words "It tastes the same as the real stuff"

I suppose this could go in the unpopular opinions thread, but here will do. I didn’t get why people think it was so funny. It was mediocre, formulaic, bobbins. And that isn’t hindsight, it’s my impression at the time it was first aired 2

I’d suggest that years of marketing feedback and sales data from these Diana Commemorative Death Tunnel Plates and Highly Detailed Lovingly Rendered Prince Philip Resin Death Masks, that it’s readers of the Saturday Mail. The first time they don’t sell enough to cover the cost of the advert will be the last time they pay for the advert. You’d imagine that of all people Mail readers were far far more savvy than to fall for absolute bollocks designed to free you from your money and your dignity.
sidcow Posted November 7, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted November 7, 2021 We've got popular stand up comedians being rubbished I one thread and popular sitcoms being trashed i this thread. Is there a VT correlation between music and comedy here? What a thoroughly miserable bunch. I'd happily watch most comedians /comedies than watch eg a horror film or some nordic detective show any day of the week.

Xela
OFAH is very good and I still watch clips on YT and laugh. They shouldn't have carried on past the point of getting rich - the last few were terrible, which kind of taints the show a bit for me.

TheAuthority Posted November 11, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted November 11, 2021 This may divide opinion.... something I don't get anymore. Violence in movies and TV. I used to watch anything and it would just wash over me. I wasn't squeamish in the slightest and I understood that any bloody gore was just make up and ketchup. I just didn't think about violence and it was just the "escape" of watching a tale that wasn't real. My wife however hates anything with violence and anger and once my so was born a few years ago I really didn't have time to watch much of anything on screen. Recently I've started watching a bit more TV and film, and boy oh boy why is everything so violent? Squid Game? WTF? Why do we want to watch this? I want to understand modern cultural references but this is just violence and anger and awfulness. Fortunately, there's no violence in my life and I don't want there to be. So why are we choosing (as a collective) to experience viewing these things? Squid Game is an international hit - what are we trying to explore to want to watch this stuff? Do we need a war to feel human in some weird way? Can we not accept a peaceful existence? Every show/movie seems to start with a death or a murder and it's become more and more graphic over the decades. The more twisted/weird the killing and death the more popular. Have I become precious/sensitive/uptight or a prude? Having not engaged with much visual media for a few years and recently getting back into it, the impression is that most of the stuff we are watching as a whole is not pleasant, and arguably not very healthy. Am I Mary Whitehouse suddenly? I want my kids world to be safe and healthy not filled with neurosis and dark murderous fantasies. The Purge??? 'kin 'ell!
chrisp65
It feels to me like because the technology, the make up, prosthetics and the cgi have advanced, everyone in tv and film feels compelled to use it. It’s certainly a lot quicker and ‘easier’ than leaving things to the imagination. It’s allowed storytellers to get away with dumbing down. It’s at least part of the reason I don’t watch much tv, its either the utterly inane One Show Antique Dance Celebrity Special, or violent twisted sex serial killer hunt. Neither of which quite does it for me.
villa4europe
i think there's so much TV about at the moment that you can avoid it but maybe the popular stuff does gravitate towards violence and having at least some element of an adult nature there's also that action and pacing of a TV show will of course raise excitement, you can watch a really deep compelling drama that moves you to tears...or you watch a power drunk former bank manager whip out a flame thrower...persoanlly for me towards the end of the working week i lean towards the latter! its why for as much as people like to get snobby over them blockbuster films will always have a place, brain at the door stuff - would then add mindlessly violent action stuff means more multitasking, its easier to be on VT whilst watching money heist than it is whilst watching midnight mass and if you dont like the violence and blood and gore dont watch gangs of london that was everything you just criticised with regards to the weirder and twistier the death thing i agree, just started only murders in the building and its great, also really enjoyed air hostess or whatever it was called

If a movie is about someone being murdered then I'm happy for it to be gruesome because that is what would happen. BUt movies like Hostel which are just over the top gore for the sake of it don't do it for me
