Fabian Delph

The only problem is he plays as some kind of DM at the minute a role where you need to be physical and get stuck in but his body cannot take it

Slightest bit of contact and he's off injured

Certainly giving Darren Anderton a run for his money

He's also one of the few players we have who displays something resembling a spot of leadership, noticed it a few weeks ago in the Swansea game when Weimann momentarily lost the plot, argued with the officials, kicked the ball away and got himself booked for it, Delph ran up to him and gave him a bit of a "Pack it in" rollocking, then against Bradford, he seemed to be doing all the talking in the huddle, geeing the other players up. I know he's not the best midfielder in the world, but he's really starting to finally step up to the plate and is at least trying to show some leadership.

things really are bad if theres posts saying that delph played good or bannan played good

id love just to sell them both (along with ireland and el ahmadi) and buy 2 new midfielders

So sell 4 midfielders and buy 2 to replace them? Thank **** you're not manager of Aston Villa.

Delph is starting to look like the player who started at Bolton just before the cup semi final a few years ago.

Looks a lot more assured on the ball in the last couple of games.

Don't get me wrong, he hasn't done anything special, but encouraging signs for me.

Delph and Westwood in the middle seem to work, anything better than Bannan or KEA. Bannan ALWAYS gets bullied by opposition midfielders so Lambert has no choice but to go out and buy a DCM with some experience

Bannan and Westwood have won matches together. Westwood and Delph have yet to win one.

Westwood and Delph paired together is a more defensive unit than Delph and Bannan or Bannan and Westwood.

They are used together because we don't have one specialist DM.

It is also a less creative midfield.

The two goals we scored today were counter-attacks. We did not dominate possession and create chances through our central midfield.

This is sometimes an okay strategy playing away. At home, it's not so good. You need the creativity of a player like Bannan.

Delph had a good game before he was injured. Very proud of his performance in the first half. Pity he got injured.

To be fair though we have quite a creative forward line whoever is included in it - Weimann, Benteke, N'Zogbia, Gabby, Bent so the type of midfield we've needed has been a supportive link between the defence and attack and this is what we haven't had but one thing I think Delph is good at is being a link, he just needs two players around him that can do it too.

But people saying we haven't really replaced Milner have a point, we need similar players to him to make what Lambert's' idea seems to be work.

I really don't think Delph is a good player but I have to admit he did well before being subbed off. Lambert's subs lost the match. Delph and Westwood individually aren't good enough to stop chances but together they do a decent job. Bannan can't play that role.

We did actually dominate possession in the first half. We just cannot score from a long build up.

I have been Delphs biggest critique but he is finally turning my opinion on him, starting to see glimpses of what he can do, he is starting to show composure on the ball and a bit of willingness to go forward, as others have said he is way better than Bannan! Hope he is fit for Bradford

Delph & Westwood look our best CM combination to me, at least on form. Being injured and cup-tied respectively for Tuesday is a massive kick in the balls. Probable replacements KEA & Holman are **** dreadful players and Bannan really struggled in the first leg save for some strong set-piece deliveries.

KEA is at the African Cup of Nations so looks like Bannan and Holman
