The fluidity to bring that down on the turn. Can you imagine any other player apart from Foden maybe doing that?

Ok not in the same era but Maradona used to do that every game.

It was said earlier but England really need to build a team around Jack Grealish otherwise we will be out in the next round and wondering what might have been.

Considering Grealish was playing in the warm-up matches I thought he was in the starting line-up, I fear we will regret not playing him from the start.

Where does the Athletic find these clickbait chasing fools from? No serious football writer would make this argument

Never heard of this prick but he has a blue tick so at least he's a verified prick. Not even the cockneyist of journalists would use that argument

His passes are always perfectly weighted. Doesn't matter if he's running at full speed, or if he's off balance, or if he just bodied Hector Bellerin, the pass will be on a plate. It's been like that since he made his debut, and even when he was floundering a bit earlier in his career. It's a very rare skill, or rather it's very rare for a player to be that on point so consistently.

His place is secured in the team surely? Only a total, complete and utter mindless, moron who has just graduated from the university of moron in moronshire with a first in moron, could possibly not appreciate the talent Jack brings to the team. So nothing to worry about lads.

Unfair on pickford, he's put that on a sixpence

I'll add Jack picked up a great position too, shame you can't see the movement to get so free but he's in acres in the middle of the pitch

Ok, fair enough, probably unfair on the keeper.

Jack (🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿) is the most productive offensively (control, retaining the ball, drawing defenders, carrying the ball, chance creation, intricate link-up) & is pulling similar defensive numbers to the other forwards.

He simply has to start. If he does not, England will regret it.

Interestingly, I do not understand the clamour to bring back Mount with no tactical training. Is he such an important player?

He presses well, in an England team that does not really press. But his attack outputs are average. There was an interesting comment from a Chelsea fan:

He was being man marked in the first half - the only English player to be man marked so far.

And he was still the best player in the first half.

Great advert for never subscribing to The Athletic, that.

This idea that Jack isn’t disciplined, doesn’t defend, is a maverick, is so stupid. He’s incredibly hard working and he’s good at defending. It’s not a **** risk to play him 😂

Wouldn't subscribe for crap like that even with their £1 offer.

TalkSport stuff.

Maybe the team is a bit clicky, ya know like the slaughtered lamb.

Don't like outsiders around here, stay off the moors, stick to the roads. Yeah the roads are great but you'll have way more fun on the moors.... if that's lost ya, Jack's on the moors

Honestly, this is Southgate’s fault.  Horribly managed situation.

Had he just treated him normally, there wouldn’t be the Mount backlash.  There wouldn’t be the constant Grealish questions.

Stirling scores the winner, and the interviewer asks him if he feels that he justified his selection.  Pretty poor form from the interviewer, but that’s what’s going to happen when your manager insists on acting like a child.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some jealousy in the camp with regards to how it all seems to be about Grealish.  And through no fault of his own, he might start getting shunned a little bit.  All because Southgate can’t see the bigger picture (prob cuz that **** hooter is in the way)

They don’t like passing to him, I don’t care what anyone says.  Apart from Saka.  The rest are a bunch of words removed.  Sterling, Kane, Shaw, Philips.  They just refuse to give him the **** ball. Actively bypass him.

He literally has better defensive stats than any of the other attacking players in the squad except Mount (who should play in the pivot), Saka and Foden who should be left St George's Park so his hair can't be an eye sore.

Thing is, that bit of skill is routine stuff for Jack. He does it all the time for us, but now the world (except for Southgate and Gary Neville) has suddenly noticed.

It's not that he doesn't defend but he doesn't do it all the times, not enough. He does it in moments.

Got to be honest. Looked very on and off in the pressing and defending side against Czech. Sometimes he did it great, pressing with intensity and winning the ball at times but other times he looked very casual, very Barkley like.

If it has to do with a lack of fitness i'm not sure.

He should play, only a fool would not already be building the side around him.

But that does include making up for his defensive deficiencies, because it’s the one weak area of his game remaining. It’s not laziness, but his awareness lets him down at times and I assume for Villa he is asked to roam in free space as often as possible.

Southgate expects him to conform to what he he is all about, like the failed club manager he is, rather than realising that if he is able to harness what Grealish is about, with the talent at Englands disposal, they will be unstoppable.

He's our most intelligent player, best decision maker (vital when countering), and best dribbler. I mean when you have almost the whole package, how are you not a guaranteed starter?
