It's an absolute joke, they may as well just award the goal instead of penalties. Constant clamp downs on anything the keepers do to try and get an edge, while giving free reign for the taker to keep doing this stutter step bollocks.

Did anyone want these rules? It just seems like a wildly unpopular rule change for no real reason.

Ollies goal is exactly what the rule should be, onside when the villa player passes the ball, offside position but ruled onside when the Chelsea player touches it - no one has a problem with that

Under the current rules (or have they changed them again now too?) If his starting position was offside when the villa player passes the ball he'd still be ruled onside when the defender touches it - no one wants that stupid shit

Isn't that Fifa's motto?

'Fifa- wildly unpopular rule changes since 1904'

What on Earth was that Jesus penalty? How can that be the rules?

Come on, there was contact with Jesus through quantum entanglement. Ayling almost touched one of Jesus's leg hairs. Clear pen.

Any thoughts?

It's not a bad idea.

Handball in the box - accidental or not - means a foul. The only thing left is "Was this intentionally stopping a shot going in?". If so, penalty. If not, indirect free kick.

It's no less unlucky than the kind of handballs they are giving as penalties now (or not, in our case vs Bournemouth) and a little clearer on the punishment.

Here’s the penalty awarded for Leicester before VAR overturned it

Through a crowd of players, you can easily see why the referee thought Watkins slid through the back of Daka.  VAR just did what it should do.

Yeah I said that at the time. Depends on his view and VAR showed him that he was wrong.

Yeah it's not a good decision in the first place but VAR is doing exactly what it's meant to do there.

In fact we should probably see more of that. A referee confident to make a decision based on what he thinks has happened knowing that if he's wrong it'll be corrected by the technology.

We shouldn't really have any issues with what's happened there

The Brighton game was a disgrace.
I don’t particularly have an issue with any of the on field decisions, but to see replays of them and not correct them is absolutely insane.

I just don’t understand how you can see a replay of that foul on Mitoma and not say it’s a penalty

So PGMOL was quick enough to apologize for the peno decision for Mitoma.

Great, let's move on then.

No, how about just let us know from whoever in charge of VAR on the day, with logical reasons, why he or she thought it wasn't a penalty.

VAR it's fine, if we can get like in rugby, in game ref v var discussion, just be sure this is nothing to do with bias or corruption. Because yesterday at the Brighton game, it felt like a corrupt game.

They've GOT to move away from clear and obvious error. That's the single most ridiculous thing. Sure, they'll still make mistakes but the biggest problem is their unwillingness to move from a bad decision because there is too much interpretation of if its a bad enough error.

Clearly all that Brighton stuff yesterday was an error. Assuming (and it's a big assumption) it's not corruption then you can only assume they weren't bad enough errors to overrule.

On that basis whoever was making the decisions at Brighton would probably have allowed the Ollie Watkins penalty to stand because, I don't know, a flick knife wasn't spotted.

Just say it as you see it.

And if you're still not 100% show the ref a replay, but the ref also needs to understand that the very fact they've been asked to look again doesn't absolutely mean theyei made a mistake.

Clear and obvious error is the main culprit. Instead just say what you see.
