Smith poor? Are you kidding? We just gave one of the top teams, on form, probably their hardest game and were unlucky not to get a draw.

We deserved more from that.

Best thing to take from this is we can beat absolutely anyone this year, even utd at old Trafford, we were the better side for large parts, and it was only10 mins at the start and 10 mins after the penalty(which was not a pen) that we weren't the better side.

 

This is easily the best villa team I've seem in many years.

Michael Oliver was absolutely diabolical.

Not because of the incredibly soft pen (how many have United had this season?) but letting them do whatever they want. Matic committed 3 yellow card worthy offences, and only got booked on the 3rd one. McTominay, 4 or 5 fouls, no yellow. Luke Shaw, easily 5 fouls, yellow on the final one.

No point going there, matching them, creating fantastic chances if the ref is always looking for a way to win them the game.

we generally give United a good game recently but just shoot ourselves in the foot. We did that again today.

I thought Villa were magnificent tonight against a team now top of league. Playing such an attractive brand of football. Such a joy to watch. Thought Cash and McGinn were brilliant alongwith Martinez. Onwards and upwards.

Good team effort, especially in the 2nd half. Think we deserved a point here. 

Manure is always going to get a soft penalty so can't really complain there, it's in the PL rules and everyone knows it.

Our lack of a bench is why I think we might miss out on a top-10 finish unless we strengthen in January.

I don't care for all the hate talk and conspiracy theories. The fact is it was two silly mistakes that cost us. Mings and Luiz will be kicking themselves.

I thought we deserved more out of that, really made a good game out of it and matched them overall, I think a draw would have been a fairer reflection of the game.

In games against top sides you find out a bit about your own strengths and weaknesses - I thought we won the midfield but lost the flanks and if we're going to develop as a club, we're going to need better wingers. I thought Luiz and McGinn were good and the centre halves looked solid, both full backs looked very good and Jack was Jack. Watkins works so hard, but I think he'll find criticism if he doesn't score more often.

I thought the penalty was a penalty, I thought the ref should have booked Matic and Shaw earlier and I hate the way Utd stand over every free kick - that's something referees should be booking players for.

Unlucky in the end, but plenty to be pleased with.

Horrible club. Foul after foul going unpunished. Is it just acceptable to fould Villa without punishment? Fernandes has to be one of the biggest words removed in football. Soft penalty to concede but so immature by us to take the risk against cheats like these.

United the best side we've played this season unfortunately but I'd have fancied us to get the second at 1-1 if it wasn't for the pen. So dissapointing.
