Wasn’t the disallowed goal down to VAR, the slide rule and those dreaded red lines? Not sure the ref has any say.

If 74th then maybe but not that late in the 84th.

To be fair to him his shooting needs to improve but it opens the game for us. I'd prefer more to have pot shots especially Watkins.

American commentators saying the penalty was a Grealish dive...  hahaha...  That was pretty stonewall to me.

Yep, on the likes of talksport and SSN when they wheel out ex refs to spout shit about horrendous decisions one of the go to excuses they use is "control", as in he left the ground so he has no control, that makes it dangerous 

Hause is late and its clumsy but he has control, its a bad tackle not a malicious or by that context a dangerous tackle hence no red

Another away win, 3 clean sheets in a row and we have up to 2 games in hand versus a lot of the teams around us. Whisper it quietly but we could be having a very good season.

Deano post match didn't agree with the VAR disallowed goal. Big smile on his face and said it was "marginal".

It was a shocking decision in my opinion.

Its all about the defenders arm, he pushed his forearm in to the small of Jack's back and then you can see him extend it, I described it as a chicken wing in the match thread, it's a blatant push and absolutely stupid

This is the reason that VAR is bollocks.

Football is an emotional game and it completely strips that away.

Anyway, good win for us. Should have wrapped it up sooner but we did take advantage of them going for it, which was pleasing nonetheless. Just disappointed that Watkins didn't score because I think he could really do with one.

McGinn, Grealish, Traore excellent tonight. Hause rarely threatened but he's been solid too - we just look more composed at the back and I don't panic so much when the opposition attack us like I have done in previous years. We've got a solid goalkeeper and defence.

Marks out of ten in another Villa XG splatterfest!

Martinez 7- Like having your dad in goal.  On a calm day.  The kind of rock that can shrug off the sort of handling-outside-the-box malarkey that Michael Oakes is probably growling at somewhere right now.

Mings 7- Typical highly competent quarterbacking in a game he could have played sleepwalking.  Silly yellow highlights the sloppy discipline our players too frequently display.

Hause 8- Hause eats these guys up for dinner every meal he sits.  And comes back for seconds.

Cash 7- Endless energy is always an asset.  Always present.  Always lively.  Would expect to see more decisive final third work from a former midfielder.

Targett 8- Keen link up work with Grealish.  A constant and consistent stretcher of the play.  Could work on the final ball, but he's there, dependably, much of the time.

Luiz 9- Classy, composed, highly intelligent.  Seemed to barely break a sweat such are his smarts.  And that's with some lung-busting covering.  Controlled the game.

McGinn 7- Robust fortitude from our thick set Duracell Rhino.  Quite sweaty.  Lungs thumping.

Traore 9- Outstanding!  Was wavering between 'cult hero' status and 'boy, there's a player in there' throughout the game, but clinched it with the sweet finish.  Smooth Jazz snooker.  Constantly made things happen, committed, giddy feet, and only the slightest chance of looking ridiculous whenever he's on the ball.

Grealish 8- Average Grealish is still our humming heartbeat.  Good to see a real drive until the final whistle.

El Ghazi 8- Embodied how an all round greater confidence in our players elevates the fluidity and conviction of our game.  He may not be the swashbuckler he promises to be, but he's a proficient swordsman with the occasional telling strike.  Happy for him.

Watkins 6- Unfairly seen as anonymous by some, Watkins persistently does the little 'False 9' things well.  But sometimes this can seem all he does, his careful, occasionally twinkling feet never quite seeming like they're putting in the shift they could.
