Disagree. Look at Ronaldo in Juventus - they're both just way too good. They'll get 3 or 4 great seasons out of him, then send him to their US team and in the process more than make up for their outlay financially through commercial deals, exposure and shirt sales.

That kind of cash buys you exactly 0 future Messi's. He's too rare a talent. Ask Utd what a billion buys them.

Oooohhhhh

James Milner was playing the day before he moved, the transfer had been agreed.
I just think Jacks personality would be the same and he’d want to play

Man City would have bought him injured or not, MON didnt want to sell him so would have picked him to play just to spite the club.

The difference nowadays is no team will pay top money for someone injured.

So why risk it if a top player or top for that club, is 100% off ?

Jack would not have a choice to play if the club had decided he was being sold.

I don't disagree with you, but I think we're still a season or two away from being able to attract players like Eriksson and being able to offer him the wages he would command.

I don’t think he’d even hesitate:

Continually shown we are not prepared to pay the going rate for domestic players.

Haggling here and there over a few million instead of just getting the bodies through the door, getting them fit and settled and getting the season off to a winner.

It is a farce.
Fully expect deadline week to sign Sama's brother.

You keep saying the same thing and every time you have no real evidence. You have no idea what's going on.

Well yes. Dean said explicitly that we needed to get bodies in the door early, for pre season. He pretty much blamed our entire relegation battle on players not being settled early enough.

What is the reason to have not signed a single player in a month other than we are not prepared to just stump up the cash?

Where have we shown this? Dubious rumours from clickbait tabloids? Biased links from a sky news corporation that makes millions off the bets that get placed on the back of it? Twitter ITKs that actually know nothing?

Or was this poorly disguised sarcasm that went straight over my head?

Why do you think we are not prepared to pay the going rate?

Why do you think we are haggling?

Why do you think it's a good idea to pay £2m/£3m extra on 5/6 players?

Why would your proposed strategy get the season off to a winner?

Why is it a farce?

Ah here we'd want to crack on now seriously. Over 2 weeks out and a kid from Exeter that's gone to the 23s - all we've got in. I know the argument going around that not as many are spending because of the pandemic. Yeah but we need to spend. We finished 17th. Clubs above us have stronger teams and squads therefore don't have to strengthen as much.

Is this your suggestion? Or is it actually happening?

Just a random one (this is the speculation thread after all) and fairly unrealistic but maybe we should be looking at taking advantage of situations like this (where a player is out of favour or frustrated at a lack of game time at a “bigger” or more successful team - especially with the Euros coming up).

Such a signing could be a big breakthrough for us and attract higher calibre players.

We have to demonstrate our intent and ambition somehow.

Absolutely no proof that we aren't willing to pay. Not willing to pay OVER the going rate. Probably. That's just sensible business.

Not many teams have seriously strengthened their squad. Is NO team willing to pay? It's just absolutely pathetic the level of vitriol poured towards the club based on absolutely nothing. Pathetic.

35 points last season. Woefully short in attacking areas. Lucky to stay up.

We are not in a position to not bide our time like others.
