Also The US are currently actually doing pretty well on a per capita basis (could obviously change over time). I think they also have the highest number of ICU beds of any country in the world which presumably would help. Its too soon to be making calls about who has done well and who hasn’t. We’re not really going to know until after the fact. Edit: Trump has not helped their cause. Edited April 9, 2020 by LondonLax

That Lib Dem vote was because your local Tory was pro EU right? May I add - are you confident that Dominic 'where is Dover' Raab will deliver the ventilators? Also - when EMILY MAITLIS is delivering sentences that resonate with the entire country - and the government is doing the exact opposite - well.... Popular Post lapal_fan
The longer this all goes on, I'm realising just how much I'm not a fan of capitalism. We're being held back by big companies, who through "trickle-down" or "slight upgrade" mechanics are holding back advances in technologies and science (and thus, medicines). I know all this is pretty obvious, but it's quite shocking at how many "hero companies" are now coming to the fore, giving free shit to people who work on the front lines (not that those people don't deserve it!), but yet, if it wasn't for this pandemic, would happily take their cash and let people who are incredibly worse off, go without. The governments around the world are promising unprecedented amounts of money into paying people who can't work a wage which is above the average income, yet when the pandemic is over, that'll be gone, but the suffering will remain in it's wake. It's like, when we need it, there's a never ending money tree that gets switched off whenever convenient. Back to the big "hero companies", are they so different from the governments in WW2, harvesting the brightest and best scientists in the world to develop the next big weapon (or hope) in the fight against the virus? Can you imagine where we'd potentially be if we pooled our wealth into science, R&D, education, rather than putting emphasis on how many camera's are on your iphone 47? I'm off to write some Sci-fi about a logical/science based society - call it spock or summat.

And even if he wasn't going to (and obviously you're right, he is) what is in it for Starmer / Labour? I can't imagine it'll play too well with the membership if one of the new leader's first acts is to join a Conservative government.

On the other hand, it could be spun as "not putting partisan politics aside during a global crisis". Hard to tell how it'll play out.
