Obviously not the Emirates, but smaller highly leveraged ones are in big trouble. Yep, that's the issue with just rescheduling or getting some sort of voucher. You can't be sure that those airlines/travel companies are going to be around when you come to the rescheduled holiday dates or to try to use the voucher. 1

wazzap24
Quote Half of the overall cases are expected within a period of a few weeks, with 95% in a period of around 10 weeks. So officials will ask those at most risk of developing severe illness to stay at home. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51895873 Hold up a minute, am I reading this right? 95% of all cases expected in next 10 weeks? My view on this whole thing is somewhat closer to yours than that of people talking about millions of deaths in the U.K. but , a lot of people have vulnerable family members and are concerned ,so I think whilst respecting your opinion , “get a grip” is the wrong answer in the circumstances ...

This is the kind of things that will spread this and kill more than needs to be. We can all wash hands and take precautions but if idiots think going to church en masse is ok then what's the point? These are the most vulnerable people.... As much I hate no football or sport it was absolutely the right thing to do! So, this from an 86 year old I know. I can socialise with friends, or I can sit alone for 6 months worrying. I’m 86, I’d rather share a meal with family than watch tv alone. What is the point of an arthritic 86 year old getting to 87 in isolation? Now that’s not for everyone. But it is for some. We’re a country that’s chosen free choice over control from church or state or facebook. We’re a country where one size does not fit all and we need to see a few perspectives. If you have circumstances that mean you cannot mix with that 86 year old, stay away. Do not tell her to stay indoors and hope she’s remembered. I had a coffee with an old man yesterday, Ray, he lives in a flat above that coffee shop and it’s his life. It’s why he moved there. Should I tell him he has to go back up stairs and stay there? I’ll tell the staff they need to explain to the Landlord they’ll be paying no rent until August or September? Perhaps they could go and live with Ray? It’s really complicated, we’re going to all have to be personally careful of others and respectful of others.

Both my parents are early 50s and unlikely to survive if they catch it. I do feel slightly better now I know the species will survive if they both die, so thanks for that.

It’s really complicated, we’re going to all have to be personally careful of others and respectful of others. . . . but it's not just about the arthritic 86 year old. If she is infected, she may pass it to others. If others in the church are infected, they may pass it to her, and she in turn may pass it to her family or other groups of friends. It's incredibly difficult of course, but we are very rapidly going to have to get into the habit, in the next week or two at the latest and why not start now, of starting to see the virus as something that isn't just going to affect our life, but the lives of lots and lots of others. It's truly hard. I don't have a table to work at for all this home-working I'm likely to be doing, so yesterday I was at IKEA. That wasn't helping, and I know that, but I'm trying to get ready to be in a position for a complete lockdown. I'm not blaming anyone for not being ready yet, physically or mentally, but if the 86-year-old wants a reason to start considering worship from home, it's that her actions may have consequences for others, rather than herself.

I mean I know it's probably a bit self-fulfilling looking at it this way - the more people go for a refund the more the companies' cashflow problems are and so on. I guess it's just a case of not assuming that all will be the same or being surprised if it isn't when rescheduling/rebooking and then making a decision in full knowledge of that. sne
There is a really interesting and educational article in the Washington Post by Harry Stevens on how to "Flatten the Curve" where they talk about 4 different approaches how to handle the outbreak. Free for all, Attempted Quarantine, Moderate distancing and Extensive distancing. It won't let med quote or embed anything here but might be something to check out.
