Purslow started that if players are not in and around the first team by about 20 then the academy isn't working properly. Barry is 18 and can't even get sub minutes in the lower leagues at the moment. Of course that can all change but perhaps there is probably a bit of extra work that needs to happen to get him back on track.

Let’s bare in mind Cameron Archer was playing non league football at Solihull moors last season scored 4 in 27 appearances, he’s now third choice striker at a premier league club,  I wouldn’t  jump to judge Barry so soon, It might not be the right move for him but still early days might be having a different conversation come end of season

True that. Even better example is Harry Kane. He was loaned out 4 times before making break through at Spurs.

You really can't make a judgement about players future at this age. One thing is guaranteed, there will be some players from our academy that will never make it, even though big things are expected of them ( and the opposite, some will make it even though we don't expect them to).

It's gonna be next to impossible for a teenager to get into a side struggling so much vs expectations. Manager is always going to go with the more experienced options in that situation, and it seems like they have a dozen other older forwards to choose.

People, he's not being recalled.

He has to learn what it takes to break into a side, even if they're struggling. Be patient and an opportunity will arise, he just has to take it when it does come.

If it doesn't work, he comes back and we reassess.

This is development football in a nutshell.

He is a good manager so not sure what is happening here. Perhaps they are still recovering after the Scottish Manager.

Is he? Got a 17.4% win percentage since he's been at Ipswich - his career seems to really have had ups and downs so far.

Has promotions for Chesterfield, Portsmouth and Wigan and a Football League Trophy. Wigan and Chestefield have regressed since he has left which is  usually a sign of a decent manager.

Fair enough - I honestly don't know anything about him, but he's having a torrid spell at Ipswich, with no wins in 6 this season.

He is a very good manager especially at that level but just sometimes clubs and managers dont fit. I know they have new ownership but Ipswich have been a badly run club for a decade or so.

Forced out McCarthy as they wanted exciting football when he was the only one making them competitive 😂

Paul cook is drowning over at Ipswich and not picking Barry. The latest 2-5 home loss just means its going to get worse for them. I agree time to recall Barry. Cook just cant be trusted to develop our players.

Not sure what happened as he used to be a good manager but Cook has actually managed worse results than lambert, he also is even more unprofessional than lambert. Paul Cook refuses to shake his own players hands when they lose for example, he snubs them and shakes the opposition players only.

He just bought a brand new goalkeeper, who had a bad game or two so he threw him out of the squad! not even on the bench! Unsurprisingly the new lad in goal let in 5. Just one example. Cook has lost the plot. He has been backed and has (arguably) the best squad in their league. Yet Ipswich is 22nd after 6 games with 3 points.... in League One.

Its a developing circus at Ipswich. We should get our player out and ship him somewhere he will play.

The difficulty for Barry is that Ipswich didn't expect to be in the position they are in. That puts extra pressure on the manager, not only to produce results but also to not look like he's losing his mind (as it were) by throwing in a young kid. That would be turned against him (Cook) as that he doesn't know what he's doing and hoping the young kid can bail him out. For all parties concerned what we need is bit of stability so Barry can then get some minutes under his belt.

I agree.

Ipswich is a club that was always going to be difficult for any manager.

As you say, horses for courses. It will be a while before cook can make anything of that club, could take a few seasons atleast.

Yeah it looks like something not good at all is going on at Ipswich.

You mention their squad which is a good point, on Transfermarkt they have the second most valuable squad in League 1, they signed Bersant Celina from Dijon who was a regular there (although granted he is currently injured), they also have our old mate Tom Carroll who should be capable of tearing up League 1!, as well as a few other very good players for League  level.

Something bad is going on there to be failing so bad with that squad, i would consider recalling Barry asap and sending him to a club where he will get some game time.

I cannot agree with most people on this thread, especially about recalling him already. it's unrealistic to expect all players to develop at the same rate, especially at Rooney's, Owen's etc rate.

Compared to our other strikers, you could argue that Barry might even be further forward than them at the same age.

Watkins was loaned out to the conference south aged 19-20 years old. He was 21 by the time he properly broke into Exeter's first team, in league two.

Ings was also loaned out to the conference south aged 18-19 years old. Becoming a regular at league one level in the second half of that season.

Also, Louie Barry has already featured in three out of 7 games Ipswich have played this season, which is fine. He, like most others, does not walk in to a starting XI, they must first adapt and learn the system. Nothing wrong with slowly introducing him as well. give it time.

Good post.

People need to relax a little. Barry is not a once in a generation player like an Owen or Rooney. The idea he should be starting every game and smashing it at 17 in that league is a but OTT.

Let's just let him develop.

We'll have him at Wrexham please. A low level I know but half the team is League 1 and 2 players now it'll do him the world of good playing most weeks in a title challenge. He could learn a lot from a player like Paul Mullin in terms of movement and work rate. It's a decent standard of footy down in the National League.
