Match Thread: Wolves v Villa

looks like lot's of things going against us, down three of our best players before the game, back up goalie off injured after 7 minutes, and then defender subbed off before the half is out. We are not playing well either, but sometimes it's just not going to be your day. But at 1-0 down, you're never out of the game, so come on villa, let's see what we can do.

We need to fundamentally change how we're trying to play here. We're simply not holding on to the ball at all, and it's just inviting Wolves on constantly. Obviously we want to play down the wings and so do Wolves, but we're just punting the ball forward, leaving either Trez or el Ghazi to chase hopeless causes and end up with gaps behind them. We're barely giving anything to Wesley and even when we do get the ball anywhere near him he's isolated.

We need Luiz and McGinn dropping back further and carrying the ball forward, and giving the wings a chance to get into the game and get around Wesley. We've failed to do this all season so we won't but still, the problems obvious.

Really dreadful first half performance from the Villa. Back to the bad old days and totally outclassed by a very good Wolves side that look streets ahead in how to play football.

Target's substitution a godsend for him as he had an absolute mare but then you couldn't pick a decent player out if that Villa 11 with any amount of sweat on the shirt apart from Marvelous.

On that first half performance Villa look definite relegation candidates.

Thankfully we're only one down, with a bit of the quality so many of these players have shown in previous matches, we can take something here.

If what we saw just then continues, this one could be embarrassing and raises some questions across the whole team, Smith most so.

Wesley is a donkey. Incapable of holding the ball up. Doesn’t challenge for the ball in the air

How much longer are people going to keep talking about his so many goals in so many appearances? How new he is to the league etc.

If anyone's interested. My personal rule of thumb is players that have a 6.5 or more at half time are on course to having a good game whilst players that have a 6.2 or less at half time are having a mediocre or worse game. So far, that's only Nakamba and Guilbert who's breached the 6.5 mark, while El Ghazi, Luiz, Mings and Konsa are below 6.2. Targett actually had a 5.7 which is really low and reflected how badly he was matching up against Traore.

In comparson, only Jota and Jonny have a rating below 6.5 for Wolves
