Jedinak was one of the root causes of our scoring problems, for me.  Just no ability to play effective passes in the middle of the park and a large contributor to "hoofball" (not himself, but because of this).  However, he was so solid (crew) defensively that we couldn't leave him out of the side.

If Whelan can be the defensive side of Jedinak as well as an actual footballer who can pass, then we're on to a winner.

This is totally right, Jedinak is far to 'specialist'. If we play more aggressively and with more adventure Jedinak will not be integral at all. Having someone in his position who will do more with the ball will be a massive positive for us.

What's your worry?

Mile Jedinak is 32 and Whelan 33. As a 33 year old man I take umbrage with you labeling that as 'mid 30's' :D

I agree. by the way welcome back :) Look forward to some more debates !

I am highly delighted we are going in to this campaign with 2 formidable ball winners.

different in their make up, but crucial to our challenge.

too often in the past for me, we have lost this kind of player and it has changed for the worst our whole dynamic.

i welcome this move by the manager.

We have been too soft in midfield for far too long. Whelan will not fade away under pressure and instead help our more creative players finally emerge from their shells.  Not sure he would work alongside Jedinak but equally I wouldn't expect us to lose any physical game with them both on the pitch and Samba at the back!

He's immense, our stand out player this first half against Watford. His passing ability has really surprised me, pinging balls out wide for fun. Could this be the start of us playing actual fast direct attacking football..?

I already look stupid for moaning when he was linked, he was excellent today

fans are no different from players.....we mature......and see things differently as we do.

He and his kind are crucial.
