Him and El Ghazi were great value and just what we needed during that time, goals and assists Think the Hourihane fee was more than 800k but still a bargain all the same. Thought it was approx £2m or thereabouts?

Thought it was approx £2m or thereabouts? you might be right actually, either way it was incredible value. I think Sheffield Wednesday wanted him aswell and at the time they had just missed out on promotion in the play off final the previous summer, so we probably did blow them out of the water to get it done. Its funny reading articles back at that time, one of them says we offered the 25 year old a "whopping £28000 per week", which seems incredibly cheap to some of the wages our squad must be on now haha

Popular Post sne
Quote Conor Hourihane to coach Aston Villa U16s next season DERBY COUNTY AND Republic of Ireland midfielder Conor Hourihane will take up a coaching role with Aston Villa U16s next season. The 32-year-old Bandon man confirmed to West Cork newspaper The Southern Star that he will continue his playing career — likely at Derby — while coaching at his former club Villa by night. Hourihane told The Southern Star Sport podcast that, “as it stands”, he is set to remain with the club for whom he scored seven goals and laid on 10 assists across 44 appearances last season, earning himself a spot in the League One Team of the Year. However, Hourihane still lives in Birmingham where the Villa U16s train in the evenings, which will allow him to significantly progress his coaching career closer to home from September onwards. “I’m going to be one of a couple of coaches,” said Hourihane, who began doing his coaching badges three years ago. “It’s amazing just to be involved in it. https://www.the42.ie/conor-hourihane-6-6088543-Jun2023/

Interesting he's taking it on as a secondary role. It's fairly normal for a player to do their badges while they are still playing. Seems that's what's happening here with Conor. It's win win as far as I can see, he's doing the schoolboy age groups because they train in the evenings anyway so it doesn't mess with his duties at Derby and they get a guy who played at the highest level and is still active. Hopefully it's as successful as we all want it to be.
