It doesn't take into account associated costs, how payments might be structured, whether the money in and out represents a saving/cost on wages...! I couldn't give a solitary **** what our 'net spend' is and how it compares to the other teams in the league. I care whether our own transfer dealings (in and out) are sufficient for the needs of OUR squad. At the moment, they're not, and much, much more work needs to be done. I don't care how our net spend relates to any other club. It's a good for **** all marker, but I suppose it gives the tabloids and Sky Sports a nice article/graphic for fans to argue over. For too **** long now, Aston Villa have been seen as a nothing team, a space in the PL (sob) filler, the team with the most draws, the boring club etc etc. The media always belittle us, they always play us and our achievements down, they rarely give us credit.. That's their view, and probably a lot of other peoples views too. And after 5 years of being shafted by a guy who didn't want us anymore, and tossed us aside like a freckly, ginger step son - who could argue against any of the criticism? We've had/shown no ambition for the last 5/6 years.. what is the purpose of any sporting club in the world? To compete, to want to win, to beat your rivals, to be top dog. What is the point if you don't want or show any of the fight, endeavor to achieve those things? Nothing. Compare us to the clubs who have now surpassed us. West Ham, Southampton, Everton, Spurs, Stoke, Bournemouth, West Brom (probably the exception) - they all try to become better. Leicester won the league last year, so what have the other 3/4 clubs behind them done? Spend hundreds of millions of pounds on players, managers and staff to catch up and overtake them. All of this happened, whilst we were spending 1.5/2/3/4 million on a few players (excuse my exaggeration) who statistically might do a job for a team who finished 17th the previous season! Ambition? Absolutely no way. No wonder there is a failing/losing mentality in this club, the board have shown no ambition whatsoever! So in comes our new owner. He decides to approach his brand new (and probably exciting to him) investment with enthusiasm, encouragement and overwhelming positivity - in spite of everyone, including fans and the media. If he shows ambition and excitement, as the owner and top dog, then this will rub off on everyone underneath him. If he believes we can be the best in the world in 5 years, then it's our job as fans to believe him, trust him and support him. If it doesn't happen, at least we can say "well, at least he gave it a damn good go". So **** the media, **** the sniping comments like "He seems to have forgotten we aren't in the PL anymore", **** the "boring Aston Villa" jibes from anyone. Let's change what we've experienced over the last half decade. Let's support what Tony is trying to achieve, to become winners again, to compete again and make supporting Villa tolerable again. **** yea!
