Michael Oakes? Never really #1 but played fair few games.

I particularly like this from his Wikipedia:

However, after the club recruited David Jamesfollowing Bosnich's departure in 1999, Oakes requested a move. He denied the request had anything to do with conceding a panenka penalty to an 8 year old wonder kid from Castle Bromwich but sources close to the goalkeeper said it haunted him for several years.

Would be absolutely awesome if in a couple of years time he has developed enough to take over from Heaton as number 1.

Who was the last academy keeper that became a first team regular?

@Villan4Life I'm going to show my ignorance and ask a silly question here, but do you look at GKs too or is it more specialist? If you do have any professional insight on him I'd love to hear it.

Oakes I never liked him, be fair on him when he come on and perform well for us.

Nigel Spinks is only my head is pop up who become regular number one after that Euro Cup final take over Rimmer, i am not sure if he is come from academy. - i was sure he was Chelsham (can't spelling) town before we nick him very youth age - about 18 years old? might i was wrong as i was too young to remember him as i remember him by first time i come support villa in 1989-1991.

Boaz Myhill? - MO'N Era - I cant remember which one was suppose be but he not good enough until he join one club and he number 1 for them in high league i forget which club might wrong person

but be fair to many of youth goalkeeper was same as him highly rate by coach and in end he is a not good enough.

last time i was rank one good goalkeeper i was expect his break through until his long term and multiple injury - Benjamin Siegrist, he was very good youth goalkeeper i was expect him number 2 or number 3 few years and was shocked see him release left to club as i expect give him 2 or 3 years more years might Sarkic was reason make him left the club maybe manager - Bruce - if Smith might different story or this reason coach move focus on Sarkic and other goalkeeper, maybe me was wrong about it.

I hope and would like to see Sarkic is number 1 for us after replace both Heaton and Steers in few years time, I was call for him as number 2 or 3 with mentor to Johnstone for many years even before Steers take role first starter before Kalinic and Nyland Injury hit, i was hope Sarkic was debut for us last years.

Maybe End of Season (would be nice to see) he will hand to number 2 to mentor by Heaton and cup match. it is would be tough to call left out Steers after last season superb perform and cup performance. He, Sarkic is likely 2nd | 3rd Choice with Steers after we sell Nyland in Summer Transfer and Kalinic in Winter Transfer.

Yet he is possibly other Benjamin Siegrist or Boaz Myhill - which i don't want see this happen.

I’d imagine we’d allow him to have a full season on loan as he is playing regularly and getting rave reviews as well as an international call up. But if Heaton is long term injury, it could be a possibly be bring Sarkic back.

Gregg Evans seems to think we're going to call him back as our No.2 goalkeepr until Steer is fit again. If that happens wouldn't be surprised to see him make his debut on Saturday to give him some first team experience in case he's called upon should we need him in the league, that's if we can get him back in time to be registered.

I’d be happy to see Sarkic get a game or two. Kid has some potential, seems to be doing well in Scotland and is an International now! I’d see how he does vs Fulham - then give Nyland the League Cup as it’s a semi and he will still need to work on his match sharpness.

Having a great season at livingston, playing regularly. shame if we have to recall him because would've been great for his development

Said the same thing about steer this time last year!

While I understand the club obviously comes first, it would be a shame for him just to come back and sit on our bench while doing very well at Livingston.

Well it will be a shame as that's what's gonna happen unfortunately.
