Nathan Jones really have burned his CV on this one, it was a strange appointment and inevitable. Headline is he lasted only for 3 months, but no he didn't, one of that month was during the WC, what a disaster. Who else is there to pick from now for them? Deano?

They are apparently eyeing Jesse Marsch.

He might do okay, but seems a strange for them to appoint someone that when all is said and done didn't do a very good job at all whilst at Leeds, people make excuses for him, should have won this and that game for example, but during his spell there for nearly a season's worth of games they were one of the worst teams in the league, in fact I think I'm right in saying that Southampton themselves were the only team to show worse form, they're appointing someone who managed just two wins from his last nineteen PL games to save them from relegation.

Would be funny if he did keep them up at Leeds' expense, maybe Southampton squad will be better suited to his tactics.

The logic presumably is that while he probably wouldn't be able to save them this season, he might be suited to getting the best out of the squad available in the Championship. Maybe there's something to that, but the Championship is so unpredictable really.

Jones might be a world-class oddball but if you look at the stats his win percentage was basically the same's as Hasenhüttl's. And he got them to a league cup semi-final. It is a  crap squad and their tactic of selling players and replacing them with unproven younger players eventually will go wrong. They are due a relegation tbh. Jones did a good job at Luton he is a decent manager if somewhat eccentric.

Wilder would've been a better shout for that.

Guess Marsch is on the rebound a bit and desperate to play a part in relegating Leeds but think this is an error from him.

Should've sat out the season and waited for the US job to come up. QF with them in home world cup in a few years and he could get a decent club offer in europe. He struggles at Southampton and that won't be happening.

I think it will go similar to DS going straight back in at Norwich.

Wilder suggestion is a good idea, maybe they have ideas that they're somehow 'above' his style of play?

Marsch came through 'Red Bull' system just like Hasenhüttl, so probably just thought that he was the best gettable manager to carry on that legacy, of course ended badly for RH but overall he did a good job, Southampton had been monitoring Marsch as the Alpine Klopp's replacement before he even went to Leeds, maybe a little surprising that they've still gone for him after his spell at Leeds, but can also imagine what the logic might be.

Southampton probably think they can still survive, they're only four points from safety with 48 points still to play for, they were never going to go for a manager purely with next season in the Championship in mind, they're still a PL club and last time Wilder was in PL his team were woeful, could say Marsch not much better, but at least he can say he went into a struggling team and kept them up, Southampton will be hoping for similar.

Good post but to be clear I didn't mean 'purely'. Of course they haven't given up, but the reality is that having changed management teams twice already this season it would be very expensive to have to change again in the summer if they do go down (and bear in mind, they have about a 75% chance of relegation at this stage). So yes it's not 'purely' about next season but it would be criminally negligent if they weren't accounting for the very strong possibility.

Well they probably have accounted for the possibility of being relegated and have decided that Marsch could bring them back up, or if not maybe there's a clause in his deal with them whereby they can sack him for little compensation if he fails to keep them up. As much as he didn't do great at Leeds, he and Southampton would probably rate his chances of getting them promoted next season, as Southampton I don't think would be in any financial peril upon relegation so will have a big advantage over most other Championship teams, if he was to get a Championship job now rightly or wrongly would probably be seen as a coup for that club.

I think he had run ins with them the season we got promoted. They dont like Wilder at Leeds

Edit.Oh it's Southampton we are talking about 😛😂

They are not cut adrift at all, sometimes a team is at this point of the season.

If they are not focusing fully on not getting relegated they are stupid. I don't think Marsch is the manager to turn things around here at all.
