I think we will struggle to get our new players up to speed but I jst dont see how this many good players can get relegated. Maybe if Martinez gets injured I guess. I feel he has the flexibility to adapt to changing situations.....I don't think Dean is the rigid thinker and one dimensional tactician as some might say....He had a generational talent to work with, it is quite clear to me, he had to use it to his full advantage. It goes without saying, that the more money we spend the pressure goes up and it will be the case. It may sound crazy, but I think Jack going, Dean has licence to change things now, Jack was so influential, how could he play a system, that didn't involve Jack in every move, but inadvertently that could have been our achilles Heel...time will tell. This may liberate Dean as a coach, with extra quality and quantity on board, we may see Dean exercises his tactical muscles. Having said that, I am not in any doubt at all, these are ambitious owners and there pursuit of success, will not be dampened by mediocrity......my guess is Dean is on the same wave length and is ahead of all that by his student of the game approach, sure he is growing with us as we improve. I think Dean will be ok.....He has so many talented staff around him too, he is not on his own and our owners always seem to be tuned in to supporting their staff. This season is massive for Smith, owners have backed him and he now needs to prove himself again. He is steadily improving but there are a few weaknesses that concern me. If he can get team playing as a unit with the new guys integrated then he will be safe, even if the results aren't great. But if we are flirting with relegation then we may see some changes. Jack has been both a savour and a curse for Smith in that Jack was brilliant but also handcuffed Smith in the way the team played and thus we struggled when Jack wasn’t available. I think Jack leaving will free Smith a lot and we won’t be the Grealish team but a more balanced Smith team. I hope I’m correct in this but I think that maybe Smith will benefit the most from Jack leaving. Maybe wrong, maybe right but I think Smith will be fine without Jack, maybe even flourish. I don't see Deans position in jeopardy..but we all know football. I saw some inherent issues last season and I hope Dean saw them too....one was on show on Sunday, and if we keep conceding unchallenged headers at the back post, that will put pressure on him...it was a pre season game, so we will cut them some slack, but Matty C needs to tighten up on that. The first season up I believe he would have kept his job if we were relegated but that level of support no longer available imo. Smith must continue to deliver to keep his job and it would not be accepted if we were in the bottom 3 in late Oct / Nov. I don't think we will be down there and hopefully we will be pushing for top 8 but I suspect NSWE and CP would be ruthless if they believe they need to be.
