Summer transfer window 2021

So never to early to speculate and get the wish list in.

I can see this being a very busy window considering how well this season has gone so far, we have a few players coming to the end of there contracts Elmo, Conor and Taylor. Realistically I don't think any will see contract extensions Conor has obviously already gone out on loan and best of luck to him. Taylor and Elmo could still both cut it in the Championship and both will leave on free in the summer.

Ross Barkley's loan will end in May and chances are he will go back to Chelsea personally I don't see us signing him.

So in the summer I see us needing to:

  • Replace Barkley - Jack Grealish say hi!
  • Sell Engels and replace with a young up and coming CB, happy to have Mings, Konsa, Hause and a n other in the squad
  • Replace Taylor, Targett has had a good season but next season will show whether he is the real deal or not.
  • Chances are Guilbert will be gone so guess a new RB to push Cash?
  • A CF to push Ollie
  • A quality left winger with pace.

Thoughts?

Pretty much agree with this. I'd add a defensive midfielder as an important position to improve too. I'd basically like us to replace Nakamba with a very good specialist defensive midfielder. If we do this it'll cost a lot of money but will free our attacking players up to concentrate more on attacking than constantly needing to track back.

Jack's best position is wide left. Why would we move him into the position Barkley plays?

I'm quite excited to see how we continue to build.

I trust our approach, I think we'll spend money and I think we're an attractive option.

Another season in the league is really going to help us push on.

I think we still need improvement in midfield and out wide.

Up front is a tricky one. We spent too much on Wes to just throw him to the side and we don't want to stop Barry having a route to the first team.

I really want to sign Jonathan Bamba. It could be a bit of a one hit wonder season but he has 6 goals and 8 assists this season in like 22 games so he has good production. He is rapid as **** and he is scoring like crazy right now.

In 18/19 he had 13 goals as well and in 17/18 he had 7 goals and 8 assists. I really hope we can sign him.

Jacks best position is the middle because he can be wide left wide right or in the centre. Wherever it is easiest for him to get the ball and create for others.

Look at how grealish plays under a manager he doesn't respect (Southgate). He stays on one side for 20 minutes doesn't get the ball then he plays as a free man and is the best player on the pitch by a country mile.

Jack showed last night that he should play in the middle.

He got isolated and marked out the game on the left. Until last night i was all for signing Barkley, but i think £30m could be better spent elsewhere.

A good big aggressive all round CM, a la Ian Taylor, Soucek.

Depending on how Wes returns, a goalscorer, if Wes is struggling, then 2 good attackers..Lacazette?

I'd love soucek. West Ham's best player by a mile.

We could go back to Marseilles and poach Florian Thauvin from them on the cheap to challenge Traore.

his contract is up, maybe scarred from his last Premier League experience

Traore's come back to England and done well enough. Does Thauvin have the character that Smith and co. look for in a player though?

Still much work to be done. Over the next few windows I think we need:

LB

RB

CB

CM

Winger (ideally someone comfortable on both sides)

As off right now we also need another striker, though I'm fan of Wesley so fingers crossed that he comes back strong from the injury.

for me, as follows:

IN (assuming £100m-125m ish to spend):

  • Left Back - 10-15m ish
  • Central Defender - 25m ish
  • Defensive Midfielder (6) - 25m ish
  • Midfielder / Attacking Midfielder (8/10) - 25m ish
  • Right Winger/Inside Forward (or a player who can play across the front 3) - 25m ish

Out:

  • Kalinic, Taylor, Elmo, Engels, El Ghazi, Barkley, Davis.

Squad to look like:

Martinez, Heaton, Steer, Targett, NEW LB, Mings, Hause, Konsa, NEW CD, Cash, Guilbert, NEW DM, Nakamba, Luiz, McGinn, Sanson, NEW MC/AM, Grealish, Trezeguet, Traore, NEW IF L/R, Watkins, Wesley, [2 spare slots for other/youth etc].

I really like the look of Charles De Ketelaere from Club Brugge ... Versatile forward player and good write up on him here. https://breakingthelines.com/player-analysis/player-analysis-charles-de-ketelaere/

Quote

Not only does De Ketelaere have the ability to hold up possession against physically imposing center backs, but he is also adept at placing his body against opponents before sharply turning away and accelerating past him. His maturity belies his tender age — he recognizes situations quickly, and he has the game intelligence to make the right choices, both on the offensive and defensive level.

Covers multiple positions, right age and calibre and can hopefully only grow and develop as a player.

Back up LB

If Guilbert goes, back up RB

I'd sell Engels and get in a better back-up for Konsa (right footed CB)

I'd sell Nakamba and get someone more suited to playing under pressure.

I wouldn't buy Barkley, meaning we'd need to buy a first choice CAM.

I'd sell AEG, meaning we'd need a new back-up winger.

I'd let Davis go - depends on Wesley's recovery and Barry's developlment as to whether we'd need to replace him or not.

-------------------------------------------------------------

So I'd be looking to go big on a CAM, the rest would be good squad depth players.

I really don't understand the argument of Grealish being better in the centre based off the last 10 minutes of last nights game. To me last night proved that we have problems in the centre attacking midfield and right wing positions; the fact that Grealish was being doubled/tripled up on should have given those two positions much more space to attack in. The lack of quality meant we were lost without Grealish being in the game.

For me over the Summer I would go with:

GK - Martinez / Steer / Heaton - Move on one of Heaton or Steer, I would imagine they will be keen on first team football.

RB - Cash / Guilbert - Elmo will be out of contract; I think we should be giving Guilbert a chance to push Cash for the first team spot.

LB - Targett / ? - Taylor will be out of contract, we need a new LB to push Targett for the left back spot.

CB - Mings / Konsa / Hause / ? - Engels can be sold, as has been mentioned already a young centre back could be an option. Or we keep Engels or sign an older player for cheap if Revan is only a season or two away from breaking into the first team.

DM - Luiz / Nakamba - More than adequate, please stay Luiz.

CM - McGinn / Sanson / Ramsey - More than adequate.

CAM - ? - Is Barkley going to be the player for this position. Even if he is I think we need another, unless Grealish can be the backup for the position. Right now I think we could spend big in this position on a player who would suit the team better than Barkley. That being said we need to see Barkley back to full fitness again before we write him off; he was special in those first few games for us.

LW - Grealish / El Ghazi - For me this is Jack's best position, he's a huge threat coming in off the left hand side. El Ghazi is an adequate backup in this position.

RW - Traore / ? - As much as I love Trezeguet, if we are to move to the next level we need a world class right winger. Traore could yet be that player, but he needs to be pushed and we need depth. This could be a big money signing.

ST - Watkins / Wesley - If we can get Wesley back fit then we don't need a new striker. Davis & Barry can be loaned for some experience.

This means our shopping list looks like:

Left Back (Backup)

Centre Back (Backup)

CAM

Right Wing

We are now at the point of our rebuild where we could spend some big money on a couple of these positions, doing so would make a huge difference to the side in the same way last Summers signings have. For me right wing and CAM are the areas I would go big on and would really help Grealish thrive moving forward.
