He's our only midfielder who has any composure on the ball, and can control the tempo.

The others just give the ball away cheaply all the time

His issue is when his composure goes too much towards casual.

Spot on with the last bit. He’s technically our best midfielder, ability wise. He’s also , out of all our midfielders , the one most liable to make a hospital pass outside our own box with no pressure on. Bournemouth at home 2 years ago, through the legs to a Bournemouth player and scored. Most players would nip that in the bud straight away. Dougie hasn’t. Not anything as bad as that but he’s just too casual.

Olympics will have been a major and valuable experience for him… he has a lot of potential and development within him and already possesses class and quality.

The added responsibility of leading from midfield for his country and managing to win will help him.

Hopefully he will reach another level now and really make a difference to the team.

Doesn’t explain how Richardilson was able to return for Everton though and not DL

Just use your own brain and decide whether having absolutely no break whatsoever between two seasons worth of football is mental or not. Why do you need Richarlison to tell you?

He's going to need more of a rest at some point, but hopefully there is another incoming before the end of August to supplement our midfield. In the meanwhile, he HAS to start on Saturday. Preferably in a three and preferably at 8, but if it had to be at 6 then so be it.

If he’s available for selection on Saturday, he goes straight in. He’s 23, 23 year olds don’t need much rest. He could be potentially ahead of a lot of our squad with match fitness and conditioning as he played copa america and olympics. The 2 week break he has is akin to a fella been benched for 2 games. I see no issue. He should be good to go, unless he went absolutely mental during his time off.

Play him against Newcastle, sign a new midfielder and give the lad a break for a while.

He’s 23. Played a dead rubber for Brazil in the group stages of the copa america. Richarlison played more and also featured alongside Luiz in the olympics. Richarlison played against Southampton on Saturday. He’s had a 2 week break. Back at it now.

It's not the playing of games per se. It's constant training and being ready to play for practically a year and a half with very little breaks due to the wonky covid schedules. That takes a toll physically and mentally.

The Olympic Final was last Saturday so less than 10 days ago
