Not sure what Deano's plan is, but looking at what we need and have:

GK - Kalinic & Steer

LB - New Player & Taylor

CBL - New Player & Hause (Mings - 10-20m?)

CBR - New Player & Chester (Tuanzebe - ?m)

RB - Guilbert & Elmo

DMC - New Player & New Player/Whelan? (Phillips - 15m? / someone else??)

MC - McGinn & Hourihane

MC - Grealish & New Player/O'Hare/Lansbury (i did initially put O'Hare here, but we likely need a decent player to challenge for those for midfield 2?)

AML - El Ghazi & New Player/Youth (Benhrama/other?)

SC - New Player & Davis/Kodjia (or new player?)

AMR - New Player & Adomah (Lolley - 15m? / other?)

To be fair, we need a good overhaul, we probably need to spend 50m just to get our key loan players permanent?

We really need to spend wisely, the more i look at what we need, its quite boggling!, but we defo dont want to do a Fulham and sign 11 new players and the whole team falls apart.......

Smith has always had to rebuild teams, I’m sure he’ll get the balance right this summer and still keep the unity there.

Excellent shout.

I'd rather sign hayden. I rate him highly. Good player and would get into this cm team. I nit sure how good conor would be at this level tbh

Hayden, Phillips or one J. Milner to fill the DCM role for me.

We've barely been a Premier League side again for a day and have already been linked with 3 or 4 players, it's gonna be a long summer...

For what it's worth I think we're getting a bit blinded by the fact Lolley is a Villa supporter. It'd be great for him and he is a very good player (I've a mate who's a ST holder at Forest that loves him) but that aside...£10 million+ for a 27 year old player that didn't cut it for one of the worst sides in the PL a couple of years ago goes against much of the sentiments espoused over the last few pages of this thread. I certainly wouldn't be unhappy to sign him but I'd be sceptical if we were to shell out a decent amount on him all the same.

He's just very good. Who knows why he couldn't break through at Huddersfield. On evidence he's an excellent player. You need look no further than his 2 games against us.

Purslow pretty much confirming we won’t be loaning players in he even said “put it on the record” that sending them back to the parent club improved and worth more to the parent club is a terrible business model. Maybe if we get options to purchase on them like last season it might be different but I get the feeling he is totally against loans.

he's completely right tbh, a lot of ppl on here have been saying it too (inc me).

We needed the Loans to get promoted i agree, BUT going forward we shouldnt be developing other teams players, we should be developing out own, 100%.

The only caveat to this would be we loan a player and have an agreed buy option for a set fee.

I'd keep the following (Realistically, we need to keep the core of the promoted side even if they are not regulars. Incremental transition is key, see where Fulham failed.)

GK: Steer, Kalinic, Sarkic

RB: Guilbert, Elmo

LB: New Signing, Taylor

CB: Mings, Chester, Someone like Matt Clarke

CB: New Signing, Hause

Holding Mid: New Signing, Hourihane, Whelan (just to have around).

CM: Super John McGinn, New Signing

CM: Grealish, New signing

RW: New signing x2

LW: El Ghazi, Kodjia

ST: New signing X2, Davis

That's a lot of work even when keeping a few around who aren't gonna be good enough such as Whelan and Taylor. Kodjia maybe even.

The likes of O'Hare need another loan and Green I doubt is good enough. Lansbury probably couldn't stay fit but if noone takes him he's at least talented enough to have around.

Good luck Dean Smith and Suso!

Things would certainly be a lot easier if we could keep Axel and Tammy :(

It said he had 2 goals and 3 assists from 34 game I think. Not exactly stellar numbers

well, if hes a specialised DMC, not rly?, all depends what his actual playing position is?

Would be weird for an AMC or similar ofc.

He's rated as a 75 on FIFA, and that's the extent of my La Liga scouting.

Help me out here, from someone brought up at a time we played chuckle egg on Sinclair Spectrums, is ‘75 on FIFA’ good or bad please?

Looks like we need 4 centre backs. I think Chester is crocked, he could be out of the game and likely not to be relied upon. I suspect we can get Mings but it’s far from clear cut and we will be made to pay big time.

Would like a couple of ambitious signings. Seems from initial links we're going for up and coming players from championship and elsewhere. Nothing wrong in that as Ashley Young showed but too many of them and you run the risk of a few of them not stepping up.

Ironically a similar summer to 2015 wouldn't be too bad as the club is now in a better place rather than having to replace all the quality we lost that summer.

Anyway left back is needed. Would like us to go for Kieran Tierney from Celtic.  Feel it's time he moved south to improve just like Andy Robertson did. Celtic would probably accept 20m. He'll probably be Leicester bound if Man. City sign Ben Chilwell but that hasn't happened with.

Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio. Was very highly rated this time last year. Then had a mediocre WC for Serbia and in and out of Lazio this season. Physically though he's made for a premier league midfield. He's sort of a hybrid midfielder. Lazio usually play him as an AM and he chips in with goals but he can also sit and play deep. Probably similar to when Fellani first came to premier league. 30m and see what they say.

Samuel Chukwueze, Villareal. Saw them v Barca and Real Madrid and guy was great in both games, fantastic right midfielder. Probably very ambitious with this one as seems Barcelona and Liverpool are being linked but he wants week in week football which he wouldn't  get at either. Think he'll be huge in 2-3 years.

These are sort of signings likes of Leicester/Wolves have been making in last year (Neves/Jimenez/Toulimens) so would like to think with our ambitions we'd be at least looking at that sort of target list.
