Things that piss you off that shouldn't

Am I the only one who performatively goes through the list of cookies and refuses permission for every one then?

I was finally defeated by an American site last week, which had a list of about 10,000 advertisers (I'm not exaggerating) and no way to refuse them except one by one.

I hate sites like this but it's better then the ones who've set their sites up to suddenly jump about a second or two after it loads and the accept all button is now where the reject all button was.

Oh, there's all sorts of tricks aren't there. My favourite is the 'legitimate interest' slider toggled to 'on' in like the 7th of 8 tabs or something.

I assumed that 'legitimate interest' was their way of getting around that? (If not, somebody should do something, because I would say that more than half of websites I visit now have that structure)

Was this the US version of the Amazon website? In which case they have no authority but if it was .co.uk then they do have authority and can levy fines of up to 4% of GLOBAL annual turnover. They can also impose a temporary or permanent ban from data processing at all.

The first step however would be rectification of the issue. It would be a huge courtroom battle which would drag on for years if they didn't comply.

So in reality, nothing

They don’t even bother claiming appropriate corporation tax from these companies, what are the chances of pushing for a GDPR breach?

Cookies isn't directly related to GDPR, the rules on cookies are to do with the ePrivacy Directive. Legitimate Interests doesn't come into it

This is the problem, firms know the all commissioners offices are massively understaffed and that they won't get around to checking anything unless there's a complaint. Even then it'll be months later and the first step would be telling off not issuing a fine.

I put in a complaint on a firm who outright ignored my DSAR (including 2 chase emails) and was impressed to hear back from the ICO 4 months later.

You only have to look at the Irish DPCs office to see how short resourced they are:

  Reveal hidden contents

Purposefully ignoring they've moved to a larger office.

But on the bright side, it looks like you might get a good deal on 10 Benson and Hedges in there.

All other times, crocs are the answer

Crocs are definitely the solution.  Or alligators.  Whichever you have to hand. Both work just as well.

AWe've talked about previous owners' bodge jobs before, I undid another today.

There's been a shit light fitting over my bed for years, just a cheap white plastic fixture, that's covered around the sides with coats of paint. It's been annoying me for ages, but I finally decided to gently chisel that paint away, only to discover that it had since become load-bearing paint, as the two screws directly into the plasterboard gave way and the light collapsed to my bed.

I'd love to meet the prick I bought this house from.

I have a pair for the beach, that are flats, with just a broad, velcro-fastening strap across the top.

I think they are classed as 'sliders'

Seems to be the popular footwear of 75% of the women in Morrisons in Tamworth, regardless of weather.

I trust that you people who put on flip flops to put the bins out aren't talking about the type with the bit that goes between your first and second toe? As that would necessitate removing your socks. I detest those things anyway - the 'between the toes' bit feels horrible, can't wear them. I have a pair for the beach, that are flats, with just a broad, velcro-fastening strap across the top.

Sliders FTW.

I had flip flops just once, in Tunisia a few years back. It was a five minute walk to hotel beach.

I was crippled after the first day, toes rubbed raw. In the bin they went.

You urban boys can’t handle specialist footwear.

The flip flop, or flwp dy flip in the original ancient Britannia, has been worn by the coastal native for thousands of years.

I also started rejecting cookies relatively recently. The sites with about a hundred legitimate interests boxes ticked are so annoying! I’ve found they tend to be American sites whereas the UK/European ones are more likely to have a reject all option (which I presume unchecks all legitimate interest boxes?)

Also, I see that the flip flops debate (although it’s pretty one sided) has reared its head in this thread again. Still a fan. Those getting blisters must have pretty sensitive skin on their feet?! First wear of the year then they might rub a bit but your feet get used to that. Fantastic summer footwear, why would you want to put socks and shoes on in the summer just to go to the shop etc. Maybe my feet overheat too easily.

I also invested in my first pair of sliders this winter - more comfortable with socks for sure when taking the bins out but not sure how they will fit in now the weather is improving.

What's all this **** about with sliders and flippity flops for doing the bins.

These are at the back door and take seconds to slip on if you are putting out the bins in August, mowing the lawn in May or filling the bird feeders in January.

Instead of building/repairing one section of road at a time, let’s just dig up the entire city at once and bring it to a near complete standstill for a few months.

The pub has been open for 7 minutes and I’m not there yet dammit!

Vegetarians piss me off, only because they always feel the need to tell you they are a vegetarian.

Whenever I'm asked if I have any special dietary requirements I say "no, I'm a carnivore"
