Peter Crouch turned 38 yesterday and will be returning to the Premier League with Burnley today.

Burnley going for a classic short and tall partnership with wee 6ft3 Chris Woods and Peter Crouch at 6ft7

I'll preface all of this by saying that I do not think Leandro Bacuna is a good player. For me though, we've had many many worse players over the years. IIRC, in his first season with us he popped up with 5 goals and some good performances from right back. I'd certainly take him at RB before any of our current options.

Also, his Champions League comments have been totally overblown. He was asked if he would ever return to Holland, and he responded that he might be interested in going to Ajax/PSV in a few years, as they play in the CL. Maybe a misguided remark given the dire straits we were in, but he certainly wasn't claiming to be on Barca's radar. To avoid any doubt, I will conclude by saying that I do not think Leandro Bacuna is a good player.

Think that's probably fair, though personally I wouldn't have him ahead of any of our current right-back options.

Wasn’t too sure where to put this, interview with Dion about his time with us

Great interview. He has so much passion for us as a club. Seems such a nice person. You’d like to think some of the players would take inspiration from having him around (he’s also done an interview with Tammy).

I loved Dion but remember he got a bit of stick towards the end.

When he was talking about the 3-2 Arsenal game, the players he mentions; Southgate, James, Taylor, Merson, himself plus we also had Hendrie, Ehiogu, Collymore. Great times.

Makes you nostalgic!

B-Mail has a little piece on some recent Villa players.

Firework attack & front page news: How Amavi, Gollini, Johansson and Co are getting on after Aston Villa exits

From firework attacks to rap battles, Aston Villa's rejects have enjoyed eventful stints since departing B6.

As part of cost-cutting measures last summer Villa shifted on eight players permanently. The likes of Pierluigi Gollini and Jordan Amavi sealed lucrative moves away while experienced pros were cut from the wage bill and a few youngsters were released.

Here we take a detailed look at the fortunes of those players since they left Villa Park:

Pierluigi Gollini

Gollini is dominating Italy’s front pages rather than the back.

The goalkeeper joined Villa in 2016 under Roberto Di Matteo but failed to win over his successor Steve Bruce and was shipped back to Italy.

Gollini’s 18-month loan at Atalanta was made permanent in the summer window and he’s continued to be used sparingly. He’s made eight starts this season for the club currently sixth in Serie A.

Away from football Gollini’s rapping career is progressing nicely and he’s grabbing headlines because of it.

‘Gollorius’ regularly parties with celebrities in Italy’s finest night spots and his love life has been plastered all over the tabloids in recent months.

Jordan Amavi

Things at Marseille have taken a turn for the worse after their Europa League heroics last season.

Fans have reacted furiously to the team’s poor results of late and former Villa defender Amavi has taken the brunt of it.

Amavi was hit by a firework thrown by one of his own club's supporters during their 2-1 Ligue 1 defeat to Lille last month.

In the 57th minute, a firework was hurled towards the touchline where it exploded. Amavi was nearest to it.

"It hit me on the back," he said. “After it hit the ground it exploded next to my foot.

"Let them moan, let them spit on us because we’re not good enough, OK. But this was something different. It’s sad."

Thankfully, Marseille’s form has picked up of late with three wins on the spin against Bordeaux, Dijon and Amiens.

Chris Samba

Samba will turn 35 next month and Villa could well be his last professional club.

The defender, who was twice transferred for £12million in his career, was released by Villa in the summer and continues to take time out from the game.

Carles Gil

After two seasons on loan at Deportivo La Coruna Gil made the permanent return to Spain in the summer.

Gil’s career has taken another twist since and he’s now ditched life in the Spanish Segunda Division for MLS.

The 26-year-old signed for New England Revolution in January and is hoping to help the Revs improve on their eighth place finish last year.

Gil will be managed by former Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel stateside.

Gabby Agbonlahor

Similarly to Samba, two-time England striker Agbonlahor’s career may well be done and dusted.

Villa’s all-time leading goalscorer has moved into the fashion industry since retirement. His clothing brand Six Figures is being promoted by Villa players past and present.

Agbonlahor, 32, has ruled out the possibility of joining another English club as he wouldn’t be able to stomach coming up against Villa.

He’s also not keen on moving away from his family to pursue football abroad.

Viktor Johansson

Swedish goalkeeper Johansson was incredibly highly rated at Villa Park and the club were at odds to lose him in the summer.

Villa were unable to offer Johansson suitable terms due to Tony Xia’s cash flow crisis and he was duly snapped up by Premier League club Leicester City.

Johansson, 20, has established himself as No.1 for the Foxes’ under-23s and they’re riding high in Premier League 2.

Oscar Borg

Borg was occasionally called up for pre-season duties by Bruce but he never actually made a senior appearance for Villa.

The 21-year-old linked up with Braintree Town late last year and is experiencing his first relegation dogfight.

Unfortunately for Borg, Braintree appear to be fighting a losing battle with relegation from the National League now looking more of a probability than a possibility.

“Coming in has been a great experience,” Borg said.

“Hakan (Hayrettin) and Danny (Searle) have been amazing and all the boys are brilliant.”

Khalid Abdo

Like Johansson and Borg, Abdo never made a first team appearance at Villa Park. The midfielder returned to Sweden last summer and he’s spent time training with Allsvenskan champions AIK.

Abdo was plagued by injuries during his final two seasons in Villa’s U23s which halted his progression
